Blake, The Vampire King

Chapter 23. I Have Your Back

"Tell me again," Blake whispered, nuzzling her neck lovingly as they both laid on the bed, naked, their limbs entangled.

"I love you Blake. Always did, and always will," was her sweet reply.

He let out a noncommittal hmm in response as a lazy smirk stretched his lips.

"Don't you have anything more to say?" She narrowed her eyes at him playfully.

"You know the depths of my feelings and the lengths to which I'd go to protect you... although I failed miserably last week."

"That is not your fault," she said in a tone of finality. "Don't beat yourself up."

"How can I not?" He scoffed.

"How can you?" She retorted hotly. "It was that backstabbing weasel..."

"Warlock sweetie," he cut in, trying to make light of the situation

"Yeah, same thing... He did that to me, to us," she huffed angrily.

"I know," he agreed.

"Had you spared him for one reason or another, I would have hunted him down now that I remember and killed him myself," she told him, her eyes darkening in anger, and he felt himself start to get aroused at the sight.

Blake brought her hand up to his lips to place a sweet kiss on it. "I wouldn't let you do my dirty work."

"You have a reputation to uphold," she said instead.

"Exactly. One of them is that I am not tolerant when it comes to you or someone I care about."

"I know," she said softly, remembering that back in the days when Felicity had been his protégée, he had set up a warning that whoever were to mess with a lone she-wolf named Felicity he'd come after them, taking it as a personal offense. "What's next now?"

"Now, I need to confront the outside world. And to prepare myself for war," he said it in such a nonchalant way, had it not been for their bond she wouldn't have known how weary he was of it all. "War?" Her eyes bulged like saucers.

"Yes, war, cara. Kyle's and Judith's kill won't go ignored."

"Hmm."

"Besides, I have already announced to the humans that supernaturals roam their world among them, unnoticed and sometimes ignored."

"Oh."

"I know right," he joked. "But now that I have you back by my side I don't mind taking on the world."

"I got you, babe. I have your back," she told him simply, a smile stretching her lips.

After a moment of comfortable silence where Blake was drawing patterns with his fingers on her bare arm, she asked in a meek voice, "How's the king?"

"I've managed to keep him alive, sure. But he cannot resume being king. He doesn't have his wits together."

"Blake," she called out softly.

"Yeah, cara?"

"I'm glad you didn't seek someone else's blood."

"I would never."

"Make love to me again," came her breathless plea as she grabbed his hard shaft. "Make me feel again. Make me alive again." "With pleasure, my lady."
