Chapter 1539
Jamie was in a terrible state. Her injuries from shielding Ben during the stabbing incident hadn't healed, and now, thanks to Summer's scheming, she had developed a fever soaring to a dangerous 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Lying in bed, delirious and motionless, Jamie didn't even realize how bad things had gotten. When the housekeeper came to deliver her meal and saw her lying there unresponsive, panic took over.
"Mr. Lucas, Miss Lewis looks like she's dead!" the housekeeper stammered, trembling with fear.
"What did you just say?" Ben shot up from his chair, his piercing gaze locking onto the housekeeper.
The housekeeper could barely meet his eyes, shrinking under the intensity of his glare. Ben had never looked so alarmed, his usual composure replaced by a pale, stricken expression.
Without waiting for further explanation, Ben bolted out of his study, stumbling as he rushed down the hallway. When he finally reached Jamie's room, he found her lying in bed, breathing heavily, her face flushed a deep red and sweat beading across her forehead. Ben touched her forehead. It was scalding. His heart clenched.
Wasting no time, he grabbed his phone and called Caleb. His voice was uncharacteristically frantic. "Caleb, get to my villa immediately. Someone here has a dangerously high fever!"
On the other end of the line, Caleb sighed. "Am I your personal doctor now? It's just a fever. Do you not have any basic medicine in your house?"
He rattled off a list of his recent "patients."
"Nina gets sick, Nash brings her to me. Lydia falls ill, Quincy calls me. And now Ben's woman is sick. Wait, a woman?!" he thought to himself.
Caleb's eyes lit up with interest. "Ben, someone at your place has a fever? A woman? Where did this mystery lady come from? Don't tell me it's your ex?"
"Just come," Ben snapped. "I don't know where the medicine is, and it's bad. She's burning up."
The urgency in Ben's voice made Caleb roll his eyes. "Fine, I'm coming. But you owe me for this," he grumbled, grabbing his emergency kit and heading to Ben's villa.
When Caleb arrived and was
ushered into the room, his

professional demeanor took over. One look at Jamie's flushed face told him everything he needed know "She's burning up. We're looking at 104, at least," he
muttered, pulling out a syringe and medication.
"Roll her over," Caleb instructed, preparing for an intramuscular injection.
Ben hesitated, his brows furrowing. "An injection... on her hip?"
Caleb gave him an exasperated look. "Yes, and unless you want her fever to keep climbing, we don't have time for your hesitation. Move!"
But Ben's protective instincts kicked
in. The idea of Caleb seeing evenza hint of Jamie's skin made his expression darken. Without another word, Ben snatched the syringe from Caleb's hand. en FindNovel
"I'll do it," Ben said flatly.
Caleb raised an eyebrow but stepped back, arms crossed. "Fine, you do it. But remind me again why I'm here if you've suddenly decided you're a doctor now?"
Ben ignored the comment, rolling Jamie over with practiced precision. Years of emergency training during his military service paid off.
Ben administered the injection with
practiced ease, showing no
hesitation Caleb, however, was beyond annoyed, especially as Ben used his body to block the view entirely, ensuring Caleb couldn't see a thing.

"If you're so capable, why did you even bother calling me?" Caleb said, rolling his eyes.
Jamie, feverish and completely out of it, didn't react at all to the injection.
Once Ben finished, he tossed the syringe into the trash bin and turned to Caleb. "I can handle that part, but the rest? That's your job. Prescribe some meds and get her on an IV." Caleb shot him an exasperated look. "Remind me again. Am I the doctor, or are you? Do you think I don't already know how to do my job without you micromanaging?" Ben stayed silent.
