Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert)

Chapter 179

Sylvia buried her face in the couch cushion, trying to soothe her frazzled nerves.

Then, her phone rang.

It was Naomi.

"Hey, Sylvia, how was your day?" Naomi's voice was laced with a teasing laughter.

"Not great," Sylvia sighed deeply.

"Oh, come on, didn't Rupert help you out?"

"Mom, is your back better?" Sylvia replied, slightly annoyed. "I've told you before, stop trying to set us up. It's never going to happen."

"It wasn't me! He said..."

"Mom, let's not, okay? It's pointless," Sylvia firmly stated.

Naomi let out a small sigh. "I thought you two could at least have a decent conversation."

As Sylvia's mother, she couldn't help but notice how Sylvia seemed to have something against Rupert at every turn.

But that was Rupert!

Even Naomi, as his sister-in-law, had to show some deference. How could Sylvia possibly stand a chance? She just didn't want Sylvia and Rupert to end up at odds over that night's events! Sylvia knew Naomi meant well, so she held back from arguing further.

"Mom, I'm tired. I'm going to rest now."

"Alright."

...

At the Simpson residence, Miriam carefully helped Bridget settle onto the couch, casting a wary glance at Rupert, whose expression remained unreadable.

"These crazy fans are getting out of hand, showing up at the apartment like that. Thank goodness the security was quick to respond, or who knows what might have happened," Miriam vented in anger. Bridget, with tears welling in her eyes, tried to interject, "Mom, let's just say I caught a cold or something."

Miriam sighed, then turned to Rupert, her face a picture of sympathy for her daughter.

"Rupert, Bridget did all this for you. She knows you've been working on a big deal lately and didn't want the fan harassment to distract you. That's why she kept quiet. Who would have thought that fan would

go so far as to track her down to her apartment?"

As Bridget leaned against Miriam, tears streamed down her flushed cheeks, her tender expression carefully calibrated to evoke pity.

She dabbed silently at her eyes, waiting for some comforting words from the man seated across from her.

Rupert glanced at his watch, his eyes deepening, before he spoke in a cold, measured tone. "I'll have someone find that obsessed fan. And when I do..."

He lifted his gaze to the mother and daughter, a cold light flickering in his eyes, leaving the unsaid threat hanging in the air.

The tension sent a shiver through both women, Bridget's tears freezing mid-flow as uncertainty flickered across her face. No, she couldn't let Rupert find that fan.

After all, the entire incident had been her own orchestration.

Bridget quickly sat next to Rupert, adopting a tone of self-sacrifice. "Rupert, you've always emphasized the importance of your partnership with Bailey. How could I allow anything to distract you? If your international partners heard about this, they might think you, Rupert of the Garcia family, can't even protect your fiancée."

Rupert turned to look at Bridget. "So, you've been swallowing your pride for my sake?"

Bridget offered a shy, sheepish smile. "I'm willing to, as long as your business thrives. I can endure anything."

Rupert rose slowly, his imposing figure casting a shadow over her.

"Well then, since you're so good at enduring... keep it up."

Bridget was momentarily confused by Rupert's words but nodded anyway.

"Of course. If it's for your sake, I'm more than happy."

"I've prepared a gift for you. Make sure to check it," he said before leaving the Simpson estate.

Bridget's heart soared, her thoughts immediately jumping to the mysterious jewelry Rupert had been rumored to purchase.

It had to be for her!

"Mom, Rupert still loves me! Can you believe he's still thinking of giving me gifts?" "Yes, yes, I've always said Sylvia is no threat," Miriam replied, smiling contentedly. Just then, Bridget's phone rang.

She snatched it up eagerly, but as the voice on the other end spoke the color drained from her face. Her hands trembled, and the phone slipped from her grasp, crashing to the floor. en FindNovel
