Chapter Chapter Twenty-Four
UNEDITED
That Same Night.
Nathan watched Sabrina's back as she walked away. He wanted to stop her but he could tell this time was different. Hugging her wasn't going to fix their issues. The right thing to do right now is probably let her be alone but Damn it! He needed to fix this.
He strides into the bedroom to find her snuggled up in the bed hugging a pillow. He takes off his shirt quietly and then sets one hand on the bed to get near her.
"Don't." She warns.
"Sabrina." He objects. "Don't do this."
She sits up and pulls her knees to her chest. "We can't do this to each other anymore. It's torture."
His brows join and he runs his fingers through his hair. His train of thought completely stopped. "I've been torturing you?"
"We've been torturing each other." She corrects. "We can't keep pretending that somehow someway, everything is going to magically get better. As time passes, things are getting worse Nathan." "We can make this work." He tries to make a case.
"No." She shakes her head slightly. "No, we can't. You don't trust me. She looks up at the ceiling trying to stop tears from dropping.
"I want too." He admits. "I know we can get there." The thought of losing her for good became too real.
"Did you hear anything I said earlier?" She opens her hands in question. "I told you, I've never cheated, and it's like I said, I have no hair, and you're as clear as day seeing all the hair on my head. No belief." "I do believe you."
"You're confusing me now."
He was speechless again.
"Honestly there will always be doubt in my every word. There will always be a what-if. Can you live like that forever?" She questions him seriously.
He continues to say absolutely nothing. His eyes changed though, he was looking at her differently. She couldn't tell if it was a good different or a bad different. Maybe it was clarity.
"I can't." She lets it be known. "For yours, mine, and for our daughter's sanity, let's just co-parent as friends."
"Sabrina." He greets his teeth.
"No." She states firmly. "You know we can't do this if you're suspicious about me. And I'm taking back everything I've said. I've never slept with Judd. So now you don't know again. What's your move?"
He only watches her with a gaze of confusion and that only angers her further. "I can't understand why you would believe Judd over me." She shakes her head. "He tells you I wanted a baby with him, and you believe that. I say I was set up, and you've gone deaf."
"Sabrina I." He struggles. "It's not just him. It's a combination of a lot of things."
She bows her head. "If this is how you view me, why would you want to stay married to me?"
"I love you." He doesn't blink.
"No Nathan." She looks back up at him. "I love you. Because even when your a dick, and say dick things, I know who you are. Even when you treated me like a whore at Matthews's birthday party, I let it go because I know that that's not who you are." A tear leaks down her cheek and she wipes it away quickly. "I know the person you are on the inside."
He clenches his jaw, fist, and squeezes his eyes shut. To know that he made her feel so low. He was disgusted and ashamed with himself. She didn't deserve what he did to her. He felt like a piece of crap.
She sniffles and swallows a lump in her throat. She had to tell him how she felt. "But you, you don't know who I am on the inside. If you did, then you would have given me the benefit of the doubt. At least that." She sniffles again. "And you want me, and don't want me at the same time. I can't live like that anymore."
"Sabrina." He struggles for the right words.
"You think I would sleep with one of my security for god sake."
"I do not!" He defends this time.
"Then why? Why fire them?"
"I was jealous." He confesses. "I don't like that they made you smile more than I did."
"You should have been happy that someone was making me smile when you weren't there to do it. If you felt secure in me, you wouldn't have fired them. It's as simple as that."
He runs frustrated fingers through his hair. He couldn't think straight. "I love you."
"It's not enough." She never thought she would say this but. "Love isn't enough."
Nathan was almost in denial as to what was happening. He was losing his wife again and hadn't the slightest clue what he should do. His eyes narrow to the floor.
Sabrina scoots herself off of the bed and moves over to the lounge chair near the connecting bathroom where her robe was laying. "I'm going to sleep in the guest bedroom. I'll sleep there until Jasmine and I find a place." She puts on the robe feeling like she needed to cover up in front of him suddenly.
He darts his eyes away from the floor and to her. He hadn't even known she moved from the bed. "Are you crazy?" His jaw tightened.
"I have to Nathan. We are done hurting each other."
He gulped so hard it hurt. "Stay, this is your room. I'll go."
"I have to move out...Somewhere close, so we both can be with Jasmine as much as we want." She adds.
He was headed for the door but then stops and looks at her.
"Let's discuss this in the morning." He gently closes the room door as he steps out.

Earlier that night at Clarissa's
Clarissa reached for a knife out of her kitchen draw and sliced in half a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Emmie. She handed it to her and then pointed over to the kitchen table to sit with her siblings. She then grabbed her cell phone from the counter and put it to her ear.
"Hello."
"Yeah, I'm here," Baylee replies.
"Sorry." Clarissa apologizes for putting her on hold. "Emmie doesn't want spaghetti for dinner."
"It's okay. So how are you guys doing?"
She goes away from the children's ears. "I got a phone call from a woman named Regina, claiming to be the one Jacob's been having an affair with."
"What!?"
"Yeah, she said that it's been going on for a while and that he comes to her every night. She even sent me text messages between them. Clarissa spoke like it was someone else's marriage blazing in flames "Oh my god. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I called Kate to take the kids out the last two days because I couldn't stop crying and now, I just feel numb."
"You should have called me. I can come over now if you want."
"No. I'm fine."
"Sure you are," Baylee states sarcastically.
"I asked her why she was calling me and she said, she feels guilty and wants to let me know that she's been sleeping with my husband."
"Doesn't she know you know already?"
"I don't think so."
"Well, What did the texts say?"
"I haven't read them. I'm afraid." She closes her eyes. Her life was shredded into pieces. She was so caught up into the fantasy of the perfect husband Jacob has always been to realize that this was real life and he was like every other man out there.
He originally changed her perception of what she always believed and that was that marriage was for idiots. She was so stupid and blind, and she trusted him every word. She grinds her front teeth. She was so angry with herself for being what she hated. How could she have been such a fool?
"Hello? Clarissa!" Baylee yells into the phone.
"Yeah, I'm here." Clarissa releases a deep breath. "Sorry."
"I just asked you, have you spoken to Jacob?"
"Only about the kids. He knows I'm done."
"You didn't tell him about the texts or about her calling?"
"No, it doesn't matter."
"Has he seen the kids?"
"No. if he comes and visits them, then leaves again, they will know something is wrong. I'm not ready for their entire worlds to be destroyed."
"Where is he?"
"Probably with his girlfriend."
"Do you really believe that?"
"I don't know. When I told him to pack his things, he didn't fight me at all. Like he wanted it to be over."
Baylee let's outs a sound of sympathy.
"It's like he gave up on us a long time ago. I really do believe that he doesn't want to be with me anymore. You think it's more than sex with her? You think he wants to be with her?"
"I don't know," Baylee admits... "I never thought he would hurt you this way. That just shows how much I don't know him."
"I think he fell in love with her." Clarissa was severely insecure about herself and has been obsessing over this.
"I still can't believe he did it. I mean, he was practically obsessed with you. I remember the first time I saw you two together. I was so angry with you for ditching me all the time but Jacob ultimately won me over. Your marriage gave me hope honestly." Baylee admitted. "Hope I didn't know I had until now."
"I want to talk about something else." Clarissa orders.
"What really happened between the two of you? Were things getting difficult? What he said in front of the hotel, is it true?"
"I don't want to talk about this anymore. Can we please, change the subject?"
"Fine." Baylee was sitting in her office scribbling on her notepad. With the royalties, she gained from Alden Enterprises, and her business degree bought and is running a highly successful women's shoe line.
"You remember Sabrina's bodyguard from the party? The one you said kept staring at me."
"Yeah."
"Well, Lola and him are officially dating."
"What?"
"I don't know how it happened but it did, and guess what, he's working for her dad now." "How?"
"I'm sure he quit working as Sabrina's bodyguard as soon as he got himself a rich girlfriend."
"That's not fair Baylee."
"It's barely been a few weeks since they met and he already has a cushy office, luxury car, and premium health insurance."
"What are you really mad about because you're sounding like mom."
"He's taking advantage of my best friend."
"You don't know that. Is she happy?"
"Yes. But he was eyeing me, then suddenly he is with her. That doesn't add up. That's suspicious activity and because she's happy doesn't mean he doesn't have an ulterior motive."
"I see what your problem is. Not everyone is after money you know."
"Will you listen?"
"Go on..."
"What do Lola and I have in common?" Baylee asks.
"You're both smart and beautiful?"
"No, we're both rich."
"So you don't think he's really interested in Lola?"
Baylee thought about it for a second. "I guess not."
"Do you think he's interested in you?"
"No. I think he's after money."
"I gotta go." Clarissa suddenly hangs up the phone and pulls Emmie from on top of the table and places her back in her seat. "Sit." She orders.
As she began cleaning spaghetti off of Matthew's face her phone rang off. She grabs it from the counter and sees that its Three pictures from Regina. Her heart dropped. It could only be more pain.
She clicked on the first picture it was of Jacob sleeping. The second one was of her laying on his chest. Then the third was of the same, only in this one, she put his phone in front of them with the time and date showing. The date was today's date. The time was Three minutes ago.
Tears welled up in her eyes. "Alyssa watch your brothers and sister for a moment." She tries to sound normal.
"Okay." Alyssa's eyes stayed glued to the tv.
She rushes out of the kitchen and into the half bathroom. She sits on the toilet and balls her eyes out in her shirt. How could he? He left her for another woman, he just let her do the dumping. It hurt so badly that he cheated but to know that he is with her at this very moment holding her in his arms. That he still wants this, Regina over her. That he went outside of their marriage to be with her. She felt rejected and betrayed.
