At that moment, within the Serpent Lair, Quintus and his forty–person team ascended the snowy mountain.
“It’s freezing to death out here!”

Quintus couldn’t help but complain, his deep voice cutting through the icy wind, “When exactly can we light a fire?”
Even Solana glanced over at Magnus. It was Magnus who had forbidden them from starting a fire.
Magnus, however, knew Quintus well. The burly man wasn’t truly cold; he was grumbling about Magnus‘
strategy.
Quintus had a knack for opposing him just for the sake of it. If anyone had a right to feel the cold, it was Magnus himself. Among the forty of them, his cultivation level was the lowest, so he should have been the first to shiver.
Still, Magnus ignored the complaints, his gaze fixed on the terrain ahead as he continued scanning the surroundings with binoculars.
“Hey, Magnus! We’ve been hiding for a whole day and night. When can we head down? We’re here to fight and wipe out the enemy, not to run away like refugees
Quintus didn’t stop his grumbling-
This time, even Solana spoke up. “Exactly. If we’re just going to hide, we might as well charge down and slaughter them!”
At last, Magnus abruptly lowered the binoculars. Without sparing them a glance, he gave a sharp order. “Want to fight? Fine. Follow me!”
Without waiting for a response, he started heading downhill.
Quintus and Solana exchanged puzzled looks. Were they really about to launch an attack?
Still, Mackenzie had made it clear–the team was to follow Magnus‘ commands to the letter. That left them with no choice but to follow his lead.
Meanwhile, Lexi’s smaller group of about a dozen had made their way into the Serpent Lair but dared not delve deeper.
Unsure of the situation outside, they feared the Toad King’s forces might still be lying in wait. So, they too decided to climb the mountain.
But to their dismay, they encountered enemies midway up the slope.
These foes all wore necklaces marked with the Serpent insignia. Their sinister expressions left no doubt

The leader, a red–cloaked cultist, leered at Hattie, Lexi, and Claudette with a glint of predatory delight in his eyes.
“Heh, Crimson Protector, I know you like the younger ones, but I prefer those with a bit more seasoning. How about you let me have that gorgeous older woman over there?”
A black–clad cultist fixed his lascivious gaze on Laura, practically salivating over her figure.
It wasn’t his lack of self–control that betrayed him. Laura’s allure was simply too overwhelming.
Lexi and the other women instinctively retreated.
Laura, however, scoffed with a smirk. “Well, aren’t you the discerning one? Too bad I’m not into ugly men.”
The black–clad cultist’s face twisted with rage. “You don’t like ugly men? Then you’ll get to experience the ugliest part of me firsthand! Attack!”
With a barked command, he launched himself at Laural
The ten Wolf Warriors accompanying the women immediately stepped forward to protect them.
But in an instant, they found themselves surrounded. There were at least fifty or sixty foes, each of them. agile and ferocious.
The black–clad cultist charged straight for Laura, his movements predatory and precise.
The Wolf Warriors raised their rifles, but before they could fire, the weapons were kicked from their hands in one swift, brutal motion.
The crimson–robed cultists, along with other combatants, surged forward in an overwhelming tide.
Though the soldiers managed to wound a few with their gunfire, their firearms were quickly disarmed, leaving them no choice but to fight with fists and feet. Outnumbered and outmatched, their strength waned, and they were soon scattered, many injured in the chaos.
Claudette, clutching the unconscious Libby, was the first to be seized by the Crimson Protector.
“Well, well! What a perfect pair–one with an angel’s face, the other with a devil’s body. Double the fun. just the way I like it!” the Crimson Protector sneered, his eyes glinting with depravity.
“You… what do you want?” Claudette demanded, her voice trembling, as she shielded Libby with her body.
“Heh, isn’t it obvious? I want both of you! Now come along quietly,” he laughed–darkly. With a forceful rug, he yanked her forward. Claudette struggled fiercely, her clothes tearing as she clung to Libby. Both of them tumbled to the ground.
“Wait!” Claudette cried out, halting the Crimson Protector just as he advanced again. Her voice trembled as she pleaded, “Libby… she’s poisoned and unconscious. Surely surely you wouldn’t stoop so low as to harm her? Can’t you spare her?”
The Crimson Protector paused, momentarily stunned. Spare her? What, so you want me to focus on you instead?”
Pain flashed across Claudette’s face. She bit her lip before saying. “No… I just feel sorry for her. Please, let
her go.

“Hahaha…” The Crimson Protector burst into laughter. You’re a rare one, aren’t you? Even in your own plight, you’re worried about someone else? Fine, fine. She’s been poisoned by road venom–I can cure her.”
She won’t die.”
“Really?” Claudette’s eyes lit up with hope.
“Of course. Make me happy, and I’ll save her. Hell, I’ll let you both share in the fun! Double the pleasure!” His laughter was as vile as his intentions..
Claudette insChctively clutched at her torn clothing, pic rising. What could she do? She couldn’t accept
this!
“Come on, don’t resist,” the Crimson Protector jeered, reaching out to grab her.
Suddenly, a gunshot shattered the air.
The Crimson Protector, adept as he was, rolled to the ground just in time to avoid a fatal shot.
Even so, the attack rattled him.”“
“Don’t you dare touch Claudette!” a voice roared from behind.
Magnus stood firm, his gun aimed, firing off several more shots. The Crimson Protector scrambled to dodge, his movements quick as he leaped for cover.
“Attack!” Quintus‘ booming voice rang out as he charged in with reinforcements.
With the arrival of their heavily armed squad, the tide of the battle turned in an instant.
Magnus wasted no time rushing to Claudette’s side, helping her up. His voice was filled with concern. “Claudette, are you all right?”
I’m fine. Thank you, she replied politely, but her attention quickly shifted to her brother. “Brother! Catch that crimson–robed cultist–he said he can save Libby!
Quintus slammed the heads of two cultists together, knocking them unconscious before turning to unce
at his sister.
This weakling again? She’s nothing but trouble!” he grumbled upon seeing Libby.
“Don’t say that! Libby has helped us a lot. Please, hurry! Claudette shouted desperately.
“Fine, fine. You’re my sister, so I’ll do it,” Quintus grunted before leaping after the Crimson Protector.
The battle soon swung decisively in their favor. Though seven or eight soldiers were injured, victory was theirs.
Quintus returned shortly after, dragging the captured Crimson Protector back to his sister. Just as he prepared to gloat, Magnus interrupted.
“Quintus, take a few of your best soldiers and retreat along the left mountain path. Make as much noise as you can to draw the enemy away while we retreat down the right.”
“Retreat?!” Quintus frowned, but before he could argue, he followed Magnus‘ gaze. His eyes widened as he spotted a massive group members of Five Poison Sect dimbing the mountain. their numbers no fewer

“Heh, Azure Grand Protector and his forces have arrived. You’re doomed now!” the captured Crimson Protector sneered.
“Shut your filthy mouth Quintus snapped, slapping the man hard enough to swell his face.
“And by the way,” Magnus interjected with a confident smirk, “didn’t you all want to start a fire?”
The others froze at his words.
“When you lead their forces to the left mountain peak, double back quietly to the right. Then you can light the fire, Magnus instructed, his tone calm yet commanding.
“Wouldn’t that just tell them where we are? If they surround the mountain, we’ll be trapped!” Solana exclaimed in shock.
Magnus‘ smirk deepened, but he said nothing, leaving the question hanging in the tense mountain air.
