Chapter 1249
Brielle's eyes widened, her face turning a deep shade of red with anger. "Do you think I'm an idiot or something?"
At this point, she wasn't even twenty yet, still lacking the grit she would gain from her time at Dorsey International. "I wasn't lying to you. The first time I saw Isaac, I thought he looked just like me. That's why I've kept him close. Can't you see it? His face is practically a carbon copy of mine. Anyone would be confused. When I told you yesterday that he was my child, I was lying. I just wanted to see if you'd get jealous." Brielle frowned, glancing over at Isaac. Isaac, with a stoic expression, tugging on Noir's ear, said, "Yeah, my dad's gone."
King's face darkened, a bit taken aback by how smoothly those words came out. He stretched his leg under the table to nudge Isaac. What was this kid talking about?
Isaac didn't say anything, just kept eating, but inside, he let out a sigh of relief. He wasn't ready to face the truth himself. If Brielle found out, he had no idea how they would deal with each other.
"Little Canary, about our child, Myles was bought off, and the baby was stillborn. He wanted to drive a wedge between us, so he lied, saying I wanted to drown the baby. But look at me, I'm even taking in someone else's child; how could I not want my own?" After saying this, he leaned in and kissed Brielle gently on the lips. "I know the matter of the child is heartbreaking. We'll have more children in the future."
Hearing this, Isaac glanced at King. King didn't look guilty at all and kept comforting Brielle. "I'm also devastated about the child, Little Canary. I'm truly sorry. I didn't know you were in poor health."
Brielle knew her health wasn't great. Right after the baby was born, she opened her eyes just in time to see the baby being taken to the bathroom. She even heard the baby cry.
"But I heard the baby cry."
King's tone softened as he tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "That was a recording, just to make you believe the baby had survived, only to have him drowned in front of you. That way, you'd naturally hate me, right? I'm sorry. When I found out the baby was stillborn, I was devastated, so I didn't dare to visit you in the hospital."
Mixing truth with lies made it easy to
believe, especially since Brielle wasn't as guarded back then. With just a few words, she actually
started to believe him a bit. But net
thinking of the lost child, her tears began to flow again.
King hugged her, patting her back. "Don't cry. Once you're healthier, we'll have more children."
Brielle bit her lip, crying silently.
"Little Canary, didn't you want to go back to Beaconsfield to work on your thesis? Let's leave this afternoon, okay? Going back to Beaconsfield might lift your spirits." Brielle nodded, not saying another word. Seeing she wasn't in the best shape, King patted her back and laid her down on the nearby couch. "Rest if you're tired." Brielle gave him a look but, unwilling to engage, turned away from him. King's lips curved into a smile as he gently ruffled her hair. She was somewhat endearing.
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Isaac and Noir heading upstairs and followed them. King scooped up Isaac and entered his room. "Little Cicada, daddy had no choice." Isaac remained silent, and King pinched his cheek. "Don't be mad. What I wanted to tell you is "
Before he could finish, Isaac blurted out, "Brielle, mommy."
King stared in surprise, not understanding, when Isaac had
found out. He sighed in relief, seeing no rejection from Isaac, and hugged him close. "Yes, Brielle is your mommy. There was a

misunderstanding between us. She didn't abandon you or me, we were just framed. You have to forgive her, understand?"
Children's worlds aren't so complicated. Isaac had already forgiven Briefe in his heart, but he still didn't know how to interact with her. After all these years, it had just been him, daddy, and Noir. Suddenly having someone else around, he felt lost. So when daddy spun that ridiculous tale at the dinner table, Isaac unexpectedly felt relieved. Just give him a little more time to prepare himself.
