Chapter Whitney: the Glance
It was just a door that separated me from my aim, separated from my evil by some footsteps. I would be in tête à tête with them after crossing the door, my heart was pounding inside my chest though I succeed to remain composed. they rented a huge and beautiful restaurant for the event, it was awesome. Before we made a step to enter, mom held my hand, and with a glance and a nod, she encouraged me to be alleviated.
We stepped toward a waiter placed at the entrance, and with a bow and a word of welcome, he opened the door.
We crossed the door and were inside, it seemed as if we were the latecomers, the hall was already full, and we walked to our sit led by a waiter with the burden of every eye on us.
We sat and took up a glass of wine while sipping, mom made me a sign, and I fixed my glance "it is him" she whispered.
He was coming straight to us with a smile on his lips, as I saw him, my heart was swollen with bitterness. I couldn't forget this manner of walking, this countenance, he hadn't changed too much during these fifteen years.
he was a well-looking man, brown in complexion, tall around 1.85 m fairly handsome for his age, with a mustache to which he owed all his gorgeousness. I looked at him with such anger in my heart while he reduced the space between us, nobody could guess that behind this angel's look and such a gracious manner was hidden an evil creature.
After a moment, with a glass of wine, he was in front of us greeting Mrs. Lucas "Dearest Mrs. Lucas, I am glad to see you. You are always breathtaking. Thank you for gratifying me with your presence" He said kissing his hand.
"OH! stop flattering me, I am not the only one in this hall whose age seems to have no effect," she replied with a little smile on her face. By looking at her reaction, I understood I have to put my anger and disgust aside for our plan to work. "Let me make you acquainted with my daughter," mom said turning to face me.
"WHITNEY..! WHITNEY LUCAS" He responded almost immediately mom ceased to speak, stretching his hand for greeting.
"Nice to meet you" I responded greeting him back.
I knew at this moment he did some research about us on the internet, indeed, since the first-day mom had rescued me, she modified much information on the internet with the influence she has it was not any difficult. Thus everyone knows me as her genetical's daughter.
"You are more gorgeous than you seem to be in some portrayals" he complimented.
Before I could respond he questioned, "I don't know why but I can feel the anger behind your smile, you have a sense of bitterness, toward me have I done something wrong".
I was stunned by his words, though I try as much as possible to remain composed.
"I don't understand what you are talking about sir," I said with a sweet voice and a little smirk.
"Perhaps it is a misapprehension" he asserted.
"Perhaps" I shrugged
"Call me Armand" with a smile, he caressed my hand and kissed it.
I was broken inside my heart by his action, however, to don't evoke any suspicions I remain as composed as my nerves could allow me.
Mrs. Lucas who had discerned what was happening came and put an end to the acquaintance.
"It is a very beautiful hall we have here," she said to break up the presentation.
"THANK YOU," he said allowing my hand.
"It is my son's restaurant, I rented it for the event" he continued.
"He seems to be a clever gentleman" replied mom
"Indeed he is, he is." he agreed, stressing the first word.
"I am sure you will be glad to meet him" he affirmed
"We hope too," I responded
he invited us to walk through the hall to be acquainted with the guests, we greeted those on our way to the rostrum.
"After your first acquaintance with him, you will meet him frequently," he affirmed, sipping his wine while trekking to the platform.
"WHY?" I asked unable to understand his assertion
"Indeed my dear Whitney, he will be the head of this business. I want him to understand how this business works, I became aged and I want him to take care of my business after me" he spoke with strong confidence of his's being very able to manage it.
I was eager to know who will be this son, I had no idea of his family members he lived hidden from the public. It didn't have personal information about him on the net. A very mysterious asshole.
"You are very right dear, I fancied about it some days later for my little Whitney, and now you are talking about it, I agree thoroughly with the idea," said mom nodding to me in a sort of total approval.
I was stunned, I didn't know how to reply at this moment it wasn't how things were expected to work, mom was the one to be the leader of the business through what she would make some enquiring. Maybe she wanted me to grow and made this revenge on my own.
"Let me meet who will be my daughter's partner," she said smiling and touching my cheeks.
"He was supposed to be here since the beginning of the meeting, I don't know what he is doing however he will be here before the end let us wait for a while," looking at me with insistence and with a sort of satisfied smile on his face he said. we reached the podium, he took a microphone and captivated the vigilance of everyone in the auditorium. He had prepared a speech in which he presented us as his partner in the exploitation of MAPLE'S MINES. The speech was full of goodwill and tender utterance though I didn't believe any word coming out the mouth of this selfish asshole.
The presentation finished, we were discussing with the guests and we heard a voice behind us, a strong, husky voice.
"Daddy.!" the voice said.
We whirled to face him, "Addams.!" I said astonished, my eyes were sparkling, and something in me was glad to see him, but I was unable to understand why. I struggled to hide my feelings without success, it was as if his presence had some power over me.
He stared at me speechless, with a countenance more stunned than mine; looking deep into my eyes he just gave me back a smile.
