Chapter 262
No wonder Selena had been skirting the big issues. Was she worried he wouldn't have her back? Everett stubbed out his cigarette, picked up his phone, and dialed a number.
After shoving Selena, Rebecca saw her sprawled in a pool of blood and felt a twisted thrill. She went straight home, thinking that Selena's baby was likely lost. Even if, by some miracle, it wasn't, Selena would be stuck in the hospital for a while. With that in mind, the slap she'd gotten from Selena didn't bother her as much.
Rebecca's room was filled with the thumping beat of her favorite rock tunes. She lay back on her bed, a face mask soothing her swollen cheek, dreaming about how she'd blow through her grandpa's inheritance. But then, the door slammed open, cutting off the music. Startled, Rebecca tore off her face mask and saw four big, burly men in black suits standing by her bed, their expressions stony. "Who are you guys? Do you know who I am? I'm a Bennett! You've got some nerve barging in here. Are you trying to get yourself kicked out of Newport..."
Before she could finish her threat, the men grabbed her, lifting her like a sack of potatoes. "Ah... what are you doing? Let me go! Help-"
Rebecca struggled, but she was no match for their strength. Hearing the ruckus, Kathlen, the lady of the Bennett family's second branch, rushed in, almost having a heart attack at the scene.
"How dare you! Barging into our home in broad daylight. Let go of my daughter now!" she shouted.
Seeing her mother, Rebecca cried out, "Mom, help me, quick!"
The leader of the men, Bill, glanced at Kathlen and said coolly, "Kathlen, this is Mr. Everett's order. He said he misses his little cousin and wants to take her out for some fun." Mr. Everett.
Kathlen finally realized the man was Everett's personal bodyguard, Bill. He was usually so inconspicuous that she hadn't recognized him at first. Everett wanting to take

Rebecca out was one thing, but this didn't look like any normal outing.
Hearing Everett's name, Rebecca's heart sank. She had always thought her cousin wouldn't care how she treated Selena, but she never imagined he'd send his bodyguard to deal with her. Uncertain of what Everett might do, Rebecca was genuinely scared now, crying even more desperately. "Mom, save me, don't let them take me, please... I don't want to go with them!"
Kathlen was heartbroken at
Rebecca's cries but couldn't defy Everett. He was the CEO of Bennett Corporation, the head of the Bennett family, the top authority. Apart from Josh and Howard, who would dare oppose him? She didn't know what Rebecca had done to anger Everett, but she felt helpless, biting her lip and closing her eyes as Bill and his men took Rebecca away. Even as they left, Rebecca's desperate cries echoed, "Mom, Mom, save me..."
As evening set in and the sun dipped behind the clouds, Selena woke up. She instinctively glanced to her side. Everett, who had promised to stay with her until she fell asleep, was nowhere to be seen.
The spacious hospital room felt vast and eerily silent. Selena sighed, unable to hide her disappointment. Men and their promises-always so unreliable! Just then, the door to the hospital room swung open, and she quickly lifted her gaze to see who it was.
