Chapter 108: Hidden Rays
LYRA'S
POV
"Thank you David, for interfering, you can go now," I smiled at him.
He nodded slightly, turning his direction to Amira, expressing an unaccountable loathing towards her. The bond was strong, and she made slow movements, but stood still, her anger over him overcoming the attraction she had for him. "I came to see the Alpha, is he in?" David asked innocently.
There was no response.
He must have sensed the bitterness as he left abruptly without looking back.
I turned to pack my luggages, hardened into convictions and resolves.
"Must have felt like a saviour," Amira said, sneering.
"But he actually was, to Alice actually. With the look in your eyes you would have devoured her, "I said, in an attempt to lighten the atmosphere between us, but Amira was lost in affection for David. What love!
"You know, I just wish things went as planned between us," Amira said between sobs. "I can't hold it anymore, I still love him" she added, breaking down, her heart filled with filled with speechless sorrow. "I have never experienced this sort of affection, but I must advice that you hide this feeling from David. He must not in the least notice your weakness towards him." I said.
"I understand, but it's difficult," she said in an attempt to get up. I helped her up and wiped her tears with a piece of clothing.
"We must get going," I said.
KYLE'S POV
I waited for days, hoping to get a clue on what just happened. I consistently felt deep shame and rankling remorse whenever I feel my neck, seeing and feeling it fresh without a mate scar. "I've made a fool of myself, I get her go," I would always say. If only I could get an idea of where she was, but our connection as mates disappeared, making it impossible to locate her.
Losing interest in everything, I was in the deepest sea of regrets and soberness.
I resulted to drinking and partying, spending my nights with every maiden I could lay my hands on. It made me feel emptier, and whenever I closed my eyes to sleep, I always saw her, her smile calling out to me. "No, you're not Lyra!" I shouted on an occasion while I was making out with one of the maidens.
"What do you mean by that," she asked. "I'm better than that bitch that left you on your wedding day, come on, let's have fun," she added, trying to kiss me back to bed.
I beat her to a pulp, sent her out of my room that night, and felt sober the next morning.
Words soon spread that I was loosing my mind, I needed to leave for a while. So I decided to participate in a Royal fighting tournament far away in Russia.
"Time to beat some Alpha's ass up," I said, packing a bag.
AXEL'S POV
I quickly took a shower. My head cleared, I went in search of Lyra, and bumped on David.
"Have you seen Lyra?" I asked him, holding his shoulders and looking into his eyes, in a manner that made him shuffle my hands from his shoulders. "You live with her here, yunnow," he replied.
I looked at him for a while, and tried to move away, but we coincidentally moved in same direction. and bumped on each other again.
"Watch it!" I said, steadying my steps and moving in the opposite direction.
He moved forward, and then turned, walking behind me.
"She was packing her....." he barely finished when he bumped into me in Lyra's room.
".... things," he finally completed.
"Things?" I asked absentmindedly as I moved into the room.
"Things." David repeated.
"Where's Amira?" I asked no one in particular.
There was no response.
I looked back and discovered that David was gone. He walked away the moment he realized that Amira wasn't in the room.
I sat down on a nearby stool, the whole scenario playing all around my head. My sadness deepened inexplicably, as I imagined how painful it must have been for Lyra to see me fucking another woman in my office. Would I ever be able to put things in place?
Lyra's POV
Opening the door, I took a quick look round the room. It was nice enough. Dusty, but ok.
"You need rest," Amira stated.
"We, need rest," I corrected.
Quickly locating the room, I lay on the bed and fell asleep.
Bright lights appeared before me, revealing rays of all the abilities I acquired and adventures I've encountered in all my existence. Gray signified my age, going and growing back and forth between the physical and spiritual realm, violet signified my fighting skills, showing in fragments all the fights I've won in life. Ash signified my love failures. Three other rays appeared, but I couldn't identify them. All of a sudden I saw a wrinkled hand covering the rays from reaching me, except the ash ray. It was so intense, I could feel it in my bones.
"Lyra..... Lyra..... Lyra....." I heard distantly, feeling a gentle but firm tap on my leg.
I woke up.
"Sorry for disturbing your nap, Lyra," Amira apologized.
"No, it's nothing," I replied, rubbing my eyes and sitting up.
"You actually scared me," she stated, looking intensely into my eyes.
"I did?" I asked.
"You opened your eyes wide and rays of light kept coming out, but it got shot again," she narrated.
" Strange, what was the last ray you saw?" I asked her, trying best to be calm.
"It was definitely ash, and it stayed quite longer than the rest," she answered.
"I feel the urge to paint," I said, getting up.
"What's the inspiration?" she asked, getting up to help prepare my drawing materials.
"That's the problem, Amira. I'm urged draw what I don't see, what I don't feel, but has a familiar and endearing intimacy," I explained.
"Oh, then it's best you shut your eyes, and follow your senses,"
"Exactly."
I picked the pencil and closed my eyes, except periodically when I open my eyes to pick up and change pencils. Hours later, I rounded up, and opened my eyes to the most perfect drawing I had ever made. "Very real," Amira said, in total awe.
"Unbelievable!" I exclaimed, not sure of what was going on. It was the drawing of a man. It looked so real, almost in motion.
"Is he in existence?" Amira asked.
"More than you can imagine, I replied, mouth agape.
"Must be a friend to you," Amira said, touching the painting carefully.
"That's Kyle, and he's near,"
