Chapter 332
Kevin had chosen to let me decide, which was also his way of testing me. He wanted to know if I really would choose to work with him. I had heard about him as well.
It was the first time I'd met him, which was why I had been flustered and uneasy.
"Have you heard of someone called Kevin Somerson? He's quite the legend."
Perhaps it was because I had sounded calm because there was a look of surprise on Gabrielle's face. After that, she pointed at the drawing and then at me, looking disbelieving I nodded to indicate that Kevin had given me the drawing, which greatly excited her.
"Do you know who Kevin Somerson is? He's one of the top ten artists in Maville, but made the choice to do this kind of design, which is a very unusual fashion piece."
This surprised me very much. I only knew a bit about Kevin, and I had heard that he had held an exhibition which had drawn a lot of attention. However, I had not known what an accomplished person he was.
His design exhibition had been attended by almost half the fashion industry, and it had even set him up to be one of the truly talented designers of the new generation. "Well, he isn't participating in this competition because it's not important to him at all. He feels that it wouldn't help him to grow."
It was as I had expected. However, I was surprised to find that he wasn't participating in the competition because he didn't want to and not because he hadn't gotten the chance to. I could only get better opportunities to improve by interacting with accomplished people like him.
The design draft he had made felt very natural to me, and it had also given me new inspiration.
I wanted an agile sense of mobility because that would give my design a unique characteristic that made it stand out.
Gabrielle suddenly looked mysteriously at me, and there was flash of anticipation in her eyes. "I think that you can try getting to know him. Since he's already given you such a great design, he must want you to improve. Why don't you just change this draft a bit and make it into your own design?"
I felt shocked by Gabrielle's suggestion.
"Don't you know that plagiarism is the biggest taboo in our field? If I plagiarize, I'd be immortalized in the hall of shame. Do you really want me to do that?"
So many people who tried to get something for nothing ended up doing badly. I did not want my life to end before it had begun, and I certainly did not want to hit rock bottom.
I sounded so determined that it surprised Gabrielle. She had never seen me take things so seriously.
"Perhaps you think that he's contemptuous of this competition and that he gave me this design draft because he wants me to participate, but there's one thing you must understand. What's his will always be his, and if I can't come up with a design, how can I learn from him?"
He was only giving me a chance to learn, interact with him, and build up my experience. How could I steal what was his?
If I really did make that piece the standard for my participation in the competition, I would be sure to get into even bigger trouble.
However, I knew very clearly that I had to be able to make better progress, or else there were sure to be problems.
"I was only joking However, you being so earnest makes me feel that you really are confident in winning."
