Chapter 263: To frighten her
Hazel had been in Marcus' home for more than a few hours. She had stayed in the room she was given too long without stepping out. But she could not take it anymore. She decided to at least go home for her things.
She carefully descended from the stairs when she heard talking, followers a by a scream and a gunshot. She jumped at the sound and wanted to escape back to her room, but she was too slow.
A large sack leaking blood was being dragged by wolf away from the stairs. She had been spotted, because she heard Marcus say, "Stop."
"Please, I won't tell anyone."
Hazel dreaded this moment very much. She thought of all the things she had done wrong that got her to this point.
"I promise I will not tell anyone, Mr. Green." No matter how many times she begged he remained paused, staring at her as though he had just discovered something interesting.
"How am I sure you're not going to tell anyone?"
"I am really tight lipped, I will take it to the grave," she said.
"You are right, it will be safer in the grave; if not you, at least my secret, " Marcus said, and she fell to dread over her all over again. She racked her brain, looking for something to say to save her life this very moment. She was not stupid, she had seen everything and he knew it. She knew he had killed someone and there was no explanation her mind could make up that did not reach that conclusion.
"So now what?" she asked.
When he saw the defeated look on her face, for some reason he was not pleased. He did enjoy her begging, but her look of defeat bothered him greatly. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, and definitely irritated, heroes to his feet and felt agitation come over him as he paced around his office.
"I will do everything you ask, I will not leave your sight if you don't want me to,"
He turned around and looked at her small figure by the corner, and something about her shivering irritated him. Marcus could be called a predator, he could smell fear. I'm his line of work, it was both his weapon and his sense of being. But when he smelled her fear, it annoyed him.
"Not so brave now, are you?" he asked. For some reason, his words sparked a thought in her head; did he enjoy this? Did he enjoy watching her pain? At that moment, she stood and stared at him straight in the face.
"What are you going to do with me?" she asked.
"No more scared?" he asked.
"Are you going to kill me?" she asked him, and his eyes narrowed. Her emotions were consistent; she was scared from the moment she saw what he was, but her reaction bounds between cowardice and bravery. Sometimes she dared not look at him, the next time she was full of courage. He was utterly curious about her.
"How could I kill my savior?" he asked and she nodded walked right past him down the stairs.
"Leaving this place is dangerous, where are you going?" he asked.
She paused at the door and looked back at him, "I have no clothes here," she said and left him standing there.
He seemed to have finally found that thing about her that completely excited him. Even if this girl was afraid, she was still utterly daring.
As Hazel walked away, her heart
beat sounded in her chest. But, she was determined to walk out of his house and feave. She knew very little about him, she was not sure if he would change his mind and come after her. While he was still sure she should not die, intended to leave quickly. Before the door could close a hand interrupted it out of nowhere. Her heart leaped to her throat at the sight of the person on the other side.
"I will take you home," he said.
"That is unnecessary," she said. All the hair on her skin rose sharply at his words. She would be actually stupid if she let him take her home.
"I already know where you live, you know. You had already met my men again your front step before, right?" he asked and she bit her lips and looked down at her feet. "I insist," he said.
She nodded and allowed him to lead
the way to the parking lot. Even though the parking space was greatly lit, she could not reduce the absolute fear she felt to be alone in his presence at this moment. What if he does something to her on her way home? What if she never gets home? She followed him up to his car and hesitated before getting in.
At first the drive was silent, until he reminded her she had yet to tell him where she lived.
"You know that it would be too dangerous for you to be out alone, right?" he asked and she began to shake all over again. Her mind raced. Was there any way she could get out of this? She wondered. He glanced at her still form once in a while. He could tell she was panicking despite being utterly still.
"Calm down, for God's sake, I won't kill you," he said in frustration. He was not sure what he wanted from her. He was obviously excited by her fear, yet bothered by it.
"You believe in God?" she blurted and his cold gaze swept over her.
"Your mouth is really quick, isn't it? It moves before you brain can keep up," he said.
"I'm sorry," she lowered her head. He was right. She did not know why she had said it. She regretted it the moment she utter those words. Is that she had not died fast enough so she is looking for faster ways to see her coffin?
"I won't kill you. At least not to keep my secret," he said.
"Really?" she asked.
"Really," he said, and even if she did not believe him, she found herself breaking into a tears. Her tears came out of nowhere, making him frustrated and panicked at the same time.
"I thought you were really brave, but who knew you were not?" Marcus tried finding words to convince her, but her cries only got louder.
"You are lying, you are taking me
back to kill," she cried loudly. She
could no more keep up her brave front as alter tall walls collapsed and she cried like a child. Her crying bothered him so much, it felt as though his chest was about to
explode from the pain. His legs came down on the brakes and he immediately turned to her.
"I swear I won't kill you to keep my secret, okay? Stop crying," he told her.
"How am I supposed to believe you?" she cried even harder. He had said so many words, yet, no matter how much he said, her tears came down like rain. He was so frustrated that he got out of the car, slamming the door shut and stood outside to calm his nerves. After a while, he heard her crying stop and got back into the car.
"Your address," he said and she gave it to him, allowing the car to return to silence. He was uncomfortable, he dared not look her way for fear that he would see her wooden form again. It was a long silent ride, but soon, his car stopped in front of her apartment building. He found somewhere to park before getting out.
