The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 79 Couldn't Keep It

Sophia, with a forlorn hope, had slammed the car into the guardrail. Lucky for her, she walked away without a scratch and managed to get Michael to come over.

She was pretty pleased with how her plan was unfolding. Michael didn't bother chatting much with the traffic cops; he just made a call and had Andrew handle the accident. Michael had just left the hospital and took Sophia back there. He told the doctor to give her a full check-up, and once they confirmed she was okay, he took her back. With tears in her eyes, Sophia looked at Michael. "Michael, I don't want to go home."

Seeing how scared she was and how much she relied on him, Michael finally said, "Alright, I'll take you to Serenity Haven." It was one of his properties, a villa with a great view. Sophia nodded, "Okay, I'll do whatever you say." Michael took her to Serenity Haven, got her settled, and said, "Get some rest. Call me if you need anything."

Sophia couldn't believe her ears. She looked at Michael with a mix of emotions. She hadn't expected that after staging this car accident, Michael would still leave her.

Tears streaming down her face, Sophia cried out, "Michael, are you leaving already?"

Michael looked at her with indifference. "You had a rough day today. Rest up; it's good for you." Plus, he had just gotten a call from the caregiver saying Emily had a minor fall. It wasn't serious, but he felt uneasy and wanted to check on her at the hospital.

Sophia saw Michael's tight-lipped silence and panicked. Was her car accident plan not enough to keep him?

She clenched her fingers and hugged Michael from behind, crying and pleading, "Michael, please don't go. A rough today indeed. Can you stay with me? I'm really scared."

Her tears soaked the back of his shirt. Michael felt her fear and tears. He frowned but stayed silent and didn't move.

Seeing he was still unmoved, Sophia let go, moved to face him, and said, "I'm sorry, Michael. I was just too unlucky today. I know you're busy. If you have to go, it's okay. I can be alone."

Michael didn't know what to think or how much of what Sophia said was true. Sophia decided to push him further.

Forcing a smile, she said, "Actually, I've been living alone abroad for the past few years. It's nothing. I can handle it."

Hearing her words, Michael finally sighed, "Alright, I'll stay with you until you fall asleep, then I'll leave."

"But you..." Sophia started.

Michael cut her off, "Let's go. I'll help you to your room to rest."

Hearing that Michael was willing to stay, Sophia smiled sweetly at him. As she turned her head, a calculating glint flashed in her eyes, but Michael didn't notice.

As night settled in, it was already ten o'clock. The hospital was quiet, with only the bright lights illuminating the silent hallways.

Emily noticed the caregiver still busy cutting fruit for her and said, "Please pour me a glass of water and then go rest."

Emily knew Michael wouldn't come back. Something must have happened with Sophia, but she didn't want to care. What did it have to do with her? After the caregiver left, Emily looked at her phone. She wanted to call Michael to ask if something had happened, but she held back. She couldn't make this call. She didn't know what she was thinking, feeling a bit agitated, and scratched her head. Finally, she pulled the blanket over herself, thinking it was better to sleep. Over at Serenity Haven, Brian suddenly called Michael. When Michael got the call, he felt a wave of relief because just a moment ago, Sophia had pulled him to sit by the bed. Sophia stared at him directly. As a man, he couldn't misinterpret her look, especially when Sophia said, "Michael, can you sleep with me tonight?"

Brian's call was a lifesaver. Michael breathed a sigh of relief but didn't know why he thought of the word "saved." At that moment, he thought, if only Emily would call him. He immediately took his phone and walked outside. It was the first time Brian had seen Michael answer his call so quickly.

Brian, as usual, started with his playful tone.

"It's late at night. Am I disturbing you? Are you in some mistress's bed?"

Michael didn't bother to respond, "What's up?"

Brian, in a casual tone, said, "I'm coming back to Emerald City in a few days. Remember to pick me up."

Michael thought he had something important to say, but it was just this. He asked gruffly, "So your business outside is done?"

Brian said cheekily, "Of course, nothing stumps the all-mighty Brian."

Michael rolled his eyes and asked pointedly, "Then why have you been there for months?"

Brian didn't respond to that, only saying, "Don't worry about it. I'll be back in a week. Bring your wife or mistress out, and we'll have a meal together. It doesn't matter who you bring." Michael held back the urge to curse him and said, "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up." He was already in a bad mood lately, and he felt worse while listening to Brian's nonsense. He frowned and looked at Sophia's room. Actually, Sophia was completely fine; he could see that she was acting. But Sophia's tears were real, and he couldn't stand seeing her cry. He didn't know why, but looking at that door, he couldn't bring himself to walk in.

Inside the room, Sophia was wearing a sexy champagne-colored slip dress, her body gracefully draped across the soft sheets. At this moment, her eyes were filled with resentment and unwillingness. She had almost coaxed Michael into bed, but he left easily because of that phone call.

Sophia frantically thought about that call. Did Emily deliberately call Michael, so he changed his mind? Sophia angrily clenched the bedsheet beneath her, but Michael seemed to be on the phone for a long time and hadn't come back in. She felt a bit unwilling.
