Chapter 784
"I have it under control. You don't need to worry about this," Charles said as he held Noelle's hand.
"Want to say a word to my sister?" he asked Noelle.
Although Charles phrased it as a question, there was an undeniable firmness in his tone.
Noelle took the phone almost instinctively, hesitating for a moment before saying, "Hello."
When Chloe heard the voice again, she found it familiar, though she could not quite place it. "Hello, I'm Chloe, Charlie's sister."
"Hello, Chloe. I'm Noelle Shaw, Charlie's wife."
"Noelle?" Chloe paused, and then a familiar face flashed in her mind. "Are you Noelle Shaw from Collosus Group, the one from the project department?"
Noelle was slightly taken aback but then smiled. "Yes, that's me."
Chloe's expression turned grim as she tightly gripped the phone. "So, it is you!"
"Yes, it's me. You remember me?" Noelle had assumed Chloe would not have much of an impression of her.
"Yes. You're very memorable," Chloe replied, her heart trembling slightly. As the thought formed in her mind, it grew uncontrollably.
Chloe did remember Noelle-not because Noelle was particularly outstanding but because ever since the company's year-end party where Noelle had danced with Charles, she had taken notice of her.
After investigating, she learned that Noelle merely resembled Kelly and had no connection to her. When Chloe found out Noelle had a boyfriend, she stopped digging into the matter. Now... "Let me speak to Charlie." Feeling a bit confused, Noelle handed the phone back to Charles. "Your sister wants to speak to you," she said, resuming her task of drying Charles' hair with a towel.
Charles' sharp eyes twinkled with amusement as he took the phone and asked, "What do you want to ask?"
His directness caught Chloe off guard. "Charlie, you can't marry this woman. She... She has a boyfriend!"
"I know," Charles replied, his long fingers resting casually on his knee. "I know everything you've discovered."
"So, this is all part of your plan? Charlie, do you even realize what you're doing? She isn't Kelly!"
Charles' gaze turned icy. He stood abruptly and signaled for Noelle to stop what she was doing. He then walked into the study.
Noelle watched his retreating back, feeling for the first time that their marriage might not be as simple as she had thought.
"I've always known who she is and
that she's not Kelly. You don't need to remind me of that. I understand your concerns, but I have never treated her as a substitute for
. I introduced her to vel
today to inform you that she's my
wife," Charles said as bad by
the window.
Charles ended the call and stared at the night outside the window for a while before turning around.
He found Noelle standing at the doorway to the study.
Noelle's expression was not exactly pleasant, but she did not appear too upset either. She looked at him with eyes filled with unspoken thoughts.
Charles pressed his lips together. There was a hint of complexity flashing in his gaze. "Why did you come over?"
She pursed her lips, tugging slightly at the corner of her mouth. "Your sister... She..."
"It's nothing," Charles said, walking over and taking the coat Noelle offered He draped it over his shoulders. "She's just having a hard time accepting that I'm married, but she has no issue with you.
"Really?"
"Yes," Charles reassured her, placing his hands gently on her shoulders.
"You don't trust me? She's just
surprised that I've already gotten et
married and is worried about how the Hoffmans will react. She has nothing against you."
