Chapter 80
Kiarra opened the door to the dark room and her heart leaped in her chest. She couldn't bear another second without him. Her beast was restless. The only light in the room was the moonlight streaming in through the windows, illuminating his form. Her breath caught in her throat when she saw him lying there and it seemed like he was sleeping with the slow rise and fall of his chest. She wanted to run to him. That's what she had practically done to get here. She carefully closed the door and quietly walked towards him. She could see him fully now and though his eyes were closed he looked somewhat troubled. She was startled when his eyes flew open. Cold green eyes watched her. She stopped in her tracks and found it ridiculous to be unsure as his eyes watched her. However, her worry started to pique when she noticed he wasn't acknowledging her presence. He looked as serious as ever just watching her. He was just lying there watching her. Fear started to grapple her when he wasn't responding as he should and panic set in. Was he upset with her? Did he not want her anymore?
She walked up to him and straddled him on the bed. Her breathing felt like it was loud to her own ears in the loud room and she worriedly leaned down to stare at him, their breaths only inches apart. She brushed his blonde hair back gasping at the tingles spreading through her body. Her heart was tearing out of her chest as she anxiously looked over him. Why wasn't he responding to her? He had lost weight and up close there were deep scary dark sunken circles under his eyes, his skin was pasty and his eyes didn't shine bright with that deep intoxicating vivid green like they used to. He did not look well. His lips moved and she jumped when she heard his voice.
"Come back to me."
Kiarra's eyes followed his hand. Clenched in his hand was the crumpled photo of them. Kiarra then realised with a jolt that he thought he was dreaming and her heart broke into a million pieces.
"Zion" she called to him, but there was no change in him. " Zion"
She impulsively kissed him hard, feeling the warmth of his lips.
"Kiss me back" she demanded against his lips.
It seemed to register to him then that she was real and it wasn't a dream. She could only kiss him like that in real life. He jumped up roughly pulling them up, reaching to turn on the light to stare at her in disbelief. His green eyes were wide as he looked over her in shock.
Kiarra's heart leaped from relief and she hugged him around his neck and started kissing his jawline going up. His beard was rough against her lips as she breathed in his scent.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry" she repeated. "I'm so sorry"
"Kiarra?" he stared shocked at her as if still trying to comprehend if she was real. His hands ran over her wildly, feeling her soft curves and leaving a hot trail.
Zion thought he must be losing his mind. Did he really have her? Was she really in his arms?
Her eyes were bright and shimmering with unshed tears and it was real. He was still trying to grasp it all. She was here with him in his black tshirt. He held her tight in desperation, breathing in her soft scent. His hands were shaking as he tried to come to grasp with what was happening.
"Oh God" he breathed out." Kiarra baby"
He squeezed her tight, resting his head against her chest listening to her heart going like rapid fire.
"You're real. You're real." he kept saying over and over.
He couldn't believe it. He thought he had lost it all. Kiarra felt the shaking of his hands on her and she took them in hers. She kissed his shaking hands as a tear slid from the corner of her eye.
She hugged him and just let him hold her. It was like she could finally breathe. She rested her head on his shoulder never wanting to ever not feel him, never wanting to part.
"You came for me" she whispered in his ear as her voice broke.
His hand ran through her hair.
"Of course," he kissed her temple and she smiled weakly at how offended and hurt he sounded." You're my entire heart."
He looked down on her still looking at her amazed.
"How did you..?! Are you okay?!" he asked grazing his thumb over her cheek.
Kiarra nodded feeling the lump in her throat.
"I thought I lost you. I thought I lost it all," he said brokenly." Then I kept waiting to feel it, to feel our connection break when you'd mate to him today."
Kiarra shook her head as she bared her unmarked neck to him. He brushed her hair away from her face feeling the tingles spreading through him like wild fire.
"I could never."
"Did you remember?" he asked, concerned with hope in his eyes.
"I didn't forget. I could never forget you." she admitted, wiping a tear from her eye. She shook her head hard as he stared at her confused. Her warm breath fanned his face as she continued." I didn't lose my memory. When I came back they gave me something to take the pain away and forget that you had ever existed but I didn't take it. I just went with it and pretended I had."
Zion closed his eyes in anger and regret. She'd had the chance to leave him all behind.Through the mistakes and pain of it all she'd still chosen him.
"I didn't think you'd come for me. I was so angry with you," she admitted.
Zion took her hands in his, hoping she knew he meant it with all his heart.
"I'm so sorry. I should never have spoken to you like that. You didn't deserve it. I'm so sorry I hurt you."
Kiarra kissed him tasting him and feeling the warmth his mouth, she was starting to feel dazed. She pulled back to stare at him.
"I'm sorry I lied to you too."
He cradled her face closer to stare into hazel eyes he'd never thought he'd see again.
"What happened? How is you're here?"
She told him everything about Castor and the chaining spell leaving out her father and Vivienne. She didn't know how to tell him about her father. She didn't know how to tell anybody. It was hard enough living through it much less talking about it, saying it out loud.
When she finished with as much as she could she had to calm him down a bit.
"I'll make sure to never get on your bad side." he smiled and when she frowned he pecked her lips. "I'm very impressed, actually beyond impressed." he said proudly.
He wished she didn't have to have gone through all of that. He just wanted to keep her safe and happy.
Kiarra finally needed to get the question out she'd been dying to ask.
"Zion what happened to you? I felt something happen to you around when you came here? That's why I sent the tickets to the ball to see if you were okay. her eyes searched his with worry and he didn't want to tell her to make her worry but he also didn't want to keep it from her.
"You felt that?" he asked surprised.
"Yeah, that's why I sent the tickets to the ball to see if you were okay."
There was no other way to say it so he went straight for it.
"I passed out."
Her brows furrowed.
"For four days" he added
Her eyes grew wide in alarm and he shook his head.
"I'm fine"
"Four days?! Zion that's not fine. Have you ever been out for that long? For days?"
Kiarra couldn't remember him ever mentioning being out for days, hours yes but not days. Her stomach clenched uncomfortably as she looked at him.
"No but I think it was probably just stress. I'm fine. Don't worry."
She didn't like the sound of it and the worrying fear that she just got him back and could lose him. An idea clicked but she didn't know if he would agree.
"Zion that doesn't sound like just stress and yes I am worried, very worried."
"I'll be fine." he tried to assure her but Kiarra knew better.
"Zion just hear me out," she then started cautiously." If I ask somebody to come and take a look at you. Would you allow it?"
Zion hesitated. He'd been through enough doctors and hospitals to last his lifetime and he had made the silent promise to never see another one for the rest of his life. "No. I'm fine"
"Just give it a chance." she pushed.
"Kiarra"
"She wouldn't touch you or anything, just look at you like when you are meeting someone. That's it."
"Who is she?" he asked.
Kiarra paused not knowing how he would take it though he was very open when it came to everyone. Witches still didn't have the best reputation all round. "She's a witch."
She could feel him closing off and she had to try.
"You've never tried a witch before, just trust me on this, please."
"I do trust you. I just." he sighed out loud. He just didn't want to be under scrutiny and being prodded.
"Just one time for me please. Just for my peace of mind."
His green eyes that held hers started to falter and he exhaled roughly.
"Okay, one time."
She kissed him in excitement deepening the kiss, letting her tongue explore his mouth. It felt amazing to be able to kiss him whenever she felt like it. He loved that she was the one pressuring him, needing him. He pulled away from her this time though he didn't ever want to but he had to know. Her lips were parted as she tried to catch her breath.
"Why were you hurt?"
He felt her stiffen against him and he was terrified to hear her answer but he needed to hear it.
"Can I tell you when we get back home?"
He grew even more worried now as he tilted his head to look at her. She wasn't looking at him anymore as she focused on a spot behind his head and he turned her face back to his.
"
Why?"
"Because I can't right now."
"Kiarra, you were severely hurt. How exactly am I supposed to just move past that?"
"I promise you I'm fine. I just need a little more courage."
He placed her hair behind her ears away from her face to stare at her. Good lord she was beautiful but there was a lot of uncertainty in her face and his wolf could feel hers. There was a sadness and pain to her as if she was hiding from him. He knew whatever it was she would tell him and he would try his hardest to wait, giving her the time she needed.
"Okay"
Relief flooded through her. He engulfed her in his arms and everything felt right. She felt safe and at peace. Everything felt calm.
"I love you " he soothingly ran his fingers through her hair.
"I love you too."
The words sounded good to his ears.
"Can we go home tomorrow?" Kiarra was more than ready to head back and just have him to herself. She needed a break and their home was the perfect place.
"Okay." he agreed. Zion didn't hesitate as he gently ran his hand along her back. They shifted and settled further to lie down on the bed. She laid down on top of him as he held her wondering how he could have gotten so lucky.
"You're going to stay?" he couldn't help but ask.
"Forever" Kiarra replied and she meant it.
