When fate plays its hand

When fate plays its hand Chapter 799

Chapter 0799

Bedford College’s official statement made it clear that Joli wouldn’t face any repercussions due to the whistleblowing incident. He would be allowed to select a new advisor aligned with his research direction, with the college facilitating the transition and communication

process.

The second point addressed the allegations regarding Sophie’s group switching another team’s project report in the competition. After thorough investigation, the claims were confirmed. Those involved were dismissed, with the implicated graduate student, Yasmine, being expelled.

Thirdly, the investigation uncovered that Sophie had violated regulations by accepting bribes for admissions. Consequently, the involved student, Tina, was also expelled.

Finally, the statement expressed deep regret over Sophie’s serious academic misconduct and the resulting negative impact on society. The college extended a formal apology and promised to reflect deeply, review existing processes, and take corrective action to prevent

future incidents.

They then reaffirmed their commitment to upholding a healthy academic environment and a nurturing educational atmosphere.

“Who are you people?” Hank stood in the office, watching in shock as a group barged in and began confiscating computers and documents.

Tina rushed forward to block them. “Do you even know where you are? How dare you just barge in like this?”

“This is Sophie’s office, isn’t it?” one of the group members asked plainly.

“Good that you know!” Tina snapped.

“Keep packing,” the leader instructed his team, ignoring her.

Tina’s eyes twitched with anger. “What are you doing? Who gave you permission to touch these materials? These are confidential files! If they get damaged or leaked, can you afford to take responsibility?”

She lunged forward, attempting to grab the files.

But the investigators were unfazed. One of them turned to her and said sharply, “You’re

one of Sophie’s students, right? We’re the investigation team. Our job is to collect these as evidence. Step aside and stop obstructing us from doing our work.”

“Investigation team?” Tina froze.

At that moment, Hank, who had been scrolling through his phone, let out a gasp. “Come and look! How could this be? This can’t be happening!

Tina moved closer and saw the screen. It displayed the second official statement from Bedford College, released just half an hour ago

“I… I’ve been expelled?” Tina murmured in disbelief.

Hank scrolled through the statement five times, carefully confirming that his name wasn’t on it. Feeling relieved, he exhaled deeply. At least he was safe!

“No… no,

this can’t be! I don’t believe it! Why would the school expel me? Sophie’s actions had nothing to do with me! What right do they have?” Tina’s voice rose.

The investigation team had already thoroughly looked into Tina’s background, uncovering everything–from how she bribed Sophie with gifts to secure her admission into graduate school. Every detail had been meticulously documented, leaving no stone unturned.

One of the investigators frowned upon hearing this. “Nothing to do with you? Think carefully about how you gained admission to graduate school before you speak again. “Other students earned their spots at the highest academic institution through merit. What about you? You know the truth. All of Sophie’s research projects have been suspended, and every faculty member and student connected to her is now under thorough investigation. “We won’t wrong an innocent person, but we also won’t spare a single termite gnawing away at this institution.”

With that, the team walked out with the confiscated evidence. Tina staggered back, collapsing onto the floor in despair.

Hank, who had been equally nervous moments earlier, suddenly felt a strange sense of relief seeing Tina in such a state. If someone else had it worse than him, then he wasn’t at the bottom.

He glanced at her–sitting on the floor, dazed and defeated. “Well, uh… I have something to do, so I’ll be heading out now,” he muttered before slipping away.

Tina stumbled into the Johnson estate, her expression hollow and her steps unsteady.

“Hey, Tina, why didn’t you change into indoor slippers?” Evelyn called out from the living room. She was wearing a face mask and holding a beauty massager to help her skincare routine.

Tina ignored her and headed straight upstairs.

Evelyn frowned. “Stop right there.”

Tina then paused on the stairs.

“The truffles and caviar we ordered from Alpino arrived today. I’ve already picked out the best ones and packed them into gift boxes. Tomorrow, take them to visit Dr. Xander.”

“There’s no need.”
