Chapter 1345
Chapter 1345
Richard's heart was suddenly filled with mixed emotions as he watched them get along. But his ability to self-regulate was strong, and he quickly composed himself. "What you're
doing seems a bit uncalled for, Luther. That's my wife and my son."
Luther's gaze was piercing. "And what evidence do you have to prove you two are married?"
Richard smiled confidently. "We have a legal marriage certificate back in Caplein."
Luther shrugged. "Then show me the certificate."
Hearing this, Richard couldn't muster a smile. He didn't know about Pearl's amnesia before this. How could he have thought of bringing the marriage certificate?
Seeing Richard's flushed face, Luther smiled smugly. "Since you can't prove it, please don't bother us." Then, he turned to Pearl. "Let's go."
Pearl looked at the unfamiliar man in front of her and Luther, but decisively chose the latter. Darius naturally followed his mother.
Richard wanted to grab Pearl's hand, but considering her amnesia, he feared frightening her. He could only watch silently as Luther led them away.
Pearl followed Luther out, but she had a lot of things to say.
When they got into the car, Luther noticed Pearl was distracted and asked, "What's wrong? Are you still thinking about earlier?"
"Yeah. You told me that my husband had passed away, and you guys were best friends. But what's going on with that man?" Judging from their interactions, they weren't best friends. There was no doubt that Luther lied to her.
Pearl had thought about it, but she couldn't be angry, considering how he had cared for her for so many years without ill intentions.
Luther looked apologetic. "I'm sorry. I admit I lied to you before, but the circumstances were special. If I had told you the truth, it would have affected you and the child in you. After the doctor examined you, he said you couldn't be stressed. Otherwise, it might affect the baby and could even lead to a miscarriage. With your current physical condition, you wouldn't be able to conceive anymore if you had a miscarriage."
Listening to him speak earnestly, Pearl suddenly realized she might have been too aggressive earlier. "I'm sorry, I didn't know about this."
It was understandable if Luther had hidden these things for her sake, so she couldn't just stand on a moral high ground and blame him. "And then? Why didn't you want to tell me the truth after I gave birth?"
Luther gripped the steering wheel, his expression somewhat conflicted. "That's because the situation was different then, and something happened that you wouldn't have been able to
accept. So I couldn't tell you. Instead of telling you and making you suffer, I'd rather you live happily."
"What was it that I couldn't accept?" For some reason, Pearl's heart began to beat violently. This was an ominous sign.
