Alphas regret: Magnificent Return of the Rejected Luna

Chapter Rejected Luna 8

I tilted my head and raised an eyebrow.. "What are you talking about, sir? I don't really know who this Rowena is that you're referring to."

I couldn't help the bitter pleasure that welled up inside of me, the person I was now had long since been transformed and was no longer the humble, weak woman who would only cling to Silas. I heard the catchm

Before I could say anything more, Silas spoke again, his voice wavering. "But Rowena-no, you can't be... alive."

I glanced back at Silas, my expression unreadable, before I finally spoke, my tone calm yet steely. "Sorry, sir, but I'm afraid you've mistaken me for someone else."

With that, I ushered my daughters into the car, giving a nod to Branwen, who had been watching from the driver's seat. "Let's get on with it," I said softly, feeling the weight of the past lingering just behind me.

The car started moving, and as I looked back through the rearview mirror, I saw Silas running after us, calling my name as if he could catch up to something he had long lost.

His figure grew smaller and smaller as the distance between us increased, and I couldn't suppress the cold, quiet satisfaction that settled in my chest. It had been so long-too long-but today, it felt like I was finally free.

When Branwen pulled up in front of a luxurious building later that evening, I stepped out of the car, smoothing the fabric of my dress. It was a beautiful fishtail evening gown, and I felt the weight of it drape around me like a second skin. My appearance was impeccable, but inside, I still felt the deep ache of the past. It was time to move forward.

"Joanne and Joey are in your hands," I said, turning to Branwen. He nodded and checked his watch.

"I'll pick you up at twelve o'clock, Rowena," he said with a respectful nod.

As Branwen drove away, I walked toward the entrance of the reception, my heels clicking on the stone steps.

I wasn't just here for business tonight, I was here to make sure everything I had worked for over the past few years would come to fruition.

Inside, I took a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for what was to come.

The room was filled with important guests, each one of them exchanging pleasantries and glances as I moved through the crowd.

I had already prepared my business cards, knowing I would need them to introduce myself as the Executive Director of the Silver Lake Pack. The guests greeted me warmly, their eyes flicking between my face and the name on my card. But as I turned, I saw him-Silas. His entrance was grand, his aura still commanding, despite the tiredness that clung to him.

His eyes locked with mine immediately, and for a moment, it felt like time had stopped. He had found me again.

And now, I would make sure he regretted ever doubting my strength.

Silas POV:

When I arrived at the reception, I tried to push everything from my mind.

But my thoughts continued to race. The questions, the uncertainties, the fear that I might be losing my sanity-everything swirled together in a whirlwind of chaos.

And then, as if the universe were mocking me, it happened.

My eyes were immediately drawn to a woman in the distance, standing near the entrance.

She was stunning, draped in a fishtail gown that accentuated her curves, the elegance in her posture unmistakable. I couldn't take my eyes off her

Something about her back, her silhouette-something about the way she held herself-struck me to my core. It was too familiar. Her form, the way she moved-her. I moved toward her, pushing my way through the crowd.

Every part of me screamed that I was imagining it, but the closer I got, the more undeniable it became. This woman-this vision in a black dress-was her. Rowena,

The closer I came, the more I saw her. The same face, the same eyes-everything.

It was her, it had to be. But it didn't make sense.

Rowena had never been this polished, this refined. She had been the Luna of the pack, yes, but not like this. Not so... perfect.

fore I could reach her, the crowd shifted. An announcement was made, and suddenly the ballroom was alive with movement.

The woman I was so sure was Rowena disappeared into the sea of guests, vanishing as quickly as she had appeared. I tried to push my way through, but she was already gone.

Frustration built up inside me. My mind couldn't accept what had just happened. This couldn't be happening.

I couldn't just let it go. I needed to know. I needed to confront her.

I rushed to the restroom, desperate to clear my mind.

My reflection in the mirror seemed like a stranger to me. The man staring back at me was worn, ragged.

Three years of grief, of loss, had etched themselves deep into my features. My hair had grayed at the temples, my eyes were darker than they used to be, but there was still something familiar in them-something searching.

I splashed cold water onto my face, hoping that the act would snap me out of this trance. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was losing my mind. Hallucinations. It had to be hallucinations.

But just as I was about to turn and leave the bathroom, the door swung open. And there she was again.

The woman. Rowena's twin, standing right before me.

Her eyes widened when she saw me. The air thickened with tension. She looked panicked.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" she exclaimed, her voice soft and apologetic. "I didn't realize this was the men's bathroom," she said, her words stumbling out. She made a quick movement to turn, to leave, but I wasn't about to let her go this time. Before she could even take a step, I reached out, grabbing her arm. "Rowena," I said, my voice shaky with disbelief. "Is that you? You're not dead, are you?"

Her eyes widened in alarm, and she jerked her hand back, her body tense. "I'm sorry," she said again, her voice shaky but firm, "I'm not Rowena. My name is Lorelei."

I felt my heart stutter. "Don't play games with me!" I snapped. "We were married for five years. I know you. You can't fool me! You're Rowena. You are my wife."

I wasn't letting go. This woman had the same face, the same presence. There was no way I was letting her slip away again.

But she was quick, more agile than I expected. With a surprising amount of strength, she shook off my grip, stepping back, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and confusion.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, her voice rising in panic. "I'm not her. I'm Lorelei. Please... just let me go."

My mind was a whirlpool of confusion and rage.

My chest tightened as I stared at her, and an idea came to me, something I had to know for sure.

"There's no way you're not Rowena," I said, my voice lower, more insistent. "There's a mole. Right behind your ear."

I saw her freeze. Her hand immediately reached up, covering the spot, as though she were trying to hide it. Her eyes darted away, but I wasn't about to let her get away again.

I reached down and tucked her hair to the side, revealing her ear.

Once we find that mole, Rowena will have no more reason to pretend she doesn't know me.
