Alphas regret: Magnificent Return of the Rejected Luna

Chapter Rejected Luna 9

Chapter 9

Rowena POV:

As I stood there, surrounded by the elegant chaos of the reception, Silas's fingers brushed against my hair, lifting it as if to find a long-forgotten secret.

His eyes, those deep, dark pools that once captivated me, now held a glimmer of something I didn't recognize.

A flicker of disbelief. His breath hitched for a moment, and I could see the shift in his expression, his face paling in shock.

"Rowena," he whispered, his voice trembling. "Where is your mole? The one behind your ear... where did it go?"

Shrugged him off, feeling a cold satisfaction swell within me. "I'm not the person you're looking for. I don't have any moles," I said evenly, allowing the le to slip out with ease.

He blinked, confusion clouding his features, but I wasn't going to let him draw me back into his delusion.

The man who had once vowed to protect me had failed-more than failed. Three years ago, he had left me to drown in pain, my children gone, and he had partnered with Lena, of all people, to tear apart what little remained of my world. требет

Silas's face twisted into something almost desperate. His voice broke slightly as he spoke again, "Rowena, please, stop this charade.

I've been thinking of you all these years... I made mistakes, I know that, but... come home with me. Let me make things right."

I couldn't help the cold laugh that bubbled up from my throat. It was bitter, sharp, and it tasted of e every single hurt he had caused me.

I just thought to my heart "Home? You must be joking, If you had cared for me even one fraction of what you claim, I wouldn't have lost everything. My children would still be alive."

Before he could say anything else, the sound of footsteps interrupted the tense silence between us. "Lorelei!" a voice called out, breaking the tension like a gust of wind scattering fragile leaves.

I turned, seeing Mr. Nash, the guest of honor, walking toward us. He was a tall, imposing figure with an air of authority. His presence made Silas tense beside me.

"Lorelei, I didn't know you'd arrived," Mr. Nash said, his eyes sparkling with genuine warmth.

I smiled, grateful for the timely distraction. "Mr. Nash, I wouldn't miss one of your receptions," I replied, stepping toward him, leaving Silas momentarily forgotten.

Nash glanced between Silas and me, a curious look crossing his face. "I didn't realize you two had met before," he remarked, tilting his head.

"Oh, we just... bumped into each other," I said quickly, feigning innocence. "I had no idea this gentleman was your alpha."

At that, Mr. Nash's eyes twinkled as if he had just discovered something amusing.

"Lorelei, this is Silas, our esteemed Alpha," he said, clapping Silas on the back. "He's been leading our pack since he was barely more than a pup. Quite an accomplished man."

I gave Silas a polite smile, extending my hand toward him. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Alpha Silas," I said smoothly.

Silas hesitated, his eyes searching mine. But he shook my hand, though his grip was stiff, and his movements mechanical.

I could tell he was thrown off-balance, unsure of how to react to this new version of me-the woman I had become.

As the night wore on, I made a point to engage in pleasant conversation with Mr. Nash, keeping Silas at arm's length.

I could feel his eyes on me constantly, watching, questioning.

He was trying to piece together this puzzle, but I wasn't going to make it easy for him.

I had worked too hard to craft my new identity, to build the walls around my heart. I wasn't about to let them crumble just because Silas decided to beg for forgiveness. Alpha's Regret: Magnificent Return of the Rejected Luna

Eventually, Silas made his way back over, his eyes still filled with that same disbelief. "Lorelei," he said softly, "Do you... do you have any sisters? Twin sisters, perhaps?" I raised an eyebrow, amused by his persistence. "No," I replied lightly. "Only a brother. Branwen, you've heard of him, I'm sure."

Silas frowned, clearly puzzled. "It's just... you look exactly like-"

Before he could finish his thought, there was a loud crash behind us.

The towering stack of wine glasses that had been artfully arranged as a centerpiece began to topple over, the delicate crystal shattering as it hit the ground.

The cascade of glasses headed straight for me, and before I had time to react, Silas was already there, pulling me into his arms and shielding me from the flying shards. Look out!" he shouted, wrapping himself around me, his broad back taking the brunt of the impact,
