Blake, The Vampire King

Chapter 29. Issues

"Your majesty," Jeremiah started and Blake had to repress the urge to grimace in distaste. He knew that sugary tone all too well. "There are some matters which require your immediate attention." "I'm listening," Blake said simply while stroking his mate's hair lovingly.

She was sitting in his lap, doing a good a job at distracting him from his duties... not that he minded.

"Princess Elizabeth wants to retire in England. That is unacceptable, considering she is the late prince's mate." The outrage couldn't be clearer in the old geezer's voice.

"The late prince, Lucian, was a backstabbing little weasel and a cheater. She can retire wherever she fancies." The words were spoken in a tone of finality which was the reason why Jeremiah averted his eyes. "Next issue?"

"There have been attacks on numerous vampires. The nobles are growing restless and itching for a war." He let out on a weary sigh.

"That is not happening. I shall go investigate each attack and The Devil's Pact's rules shall apply as per usual," Blake said resolutely. "But,"

"Not buts, no ifs," Blake cut in sternly, and he could smell the scent of his mate's arousal, which in turn made him instantly hard for her. "I'll take five bodyguards with me if you so wish." "Very well," Jeremiah conceded.

"Anything else?"

"Yes. There can never be two kings at any given time." The words were spoken in a whisper, but the fact was that the thought was voiced out nonetheless.

"What are you implying, Jeremiah?" Blake thundered, eyes going black in ire. "Do you mean to say I should kill the old man, all because of some old outdated protocol?"

"I wasn't implying anything. It's just that..."

"Just what, Jeremiah? Speak your mind."

"There are rumors..."

"What kind of rumors?"

"The Carmichael clan intends to strike," he said at last.

"Let them strike. I'll be waiting for them. A coup d'état is an act of treason punishable by death last time I checked. Is that all?"

"Yes, your majesty."

After nodding curtly in a way that indicated that the vampire council's president was dismissed, Blake turned to his mate. "You little minx!" He exclaimed in reprimand. She giggled unrepentantly. He nuzzled her neck before nipping at the juncture between her shoulder and neck, making her giggles turn into pleasurable moans. "Blake," she called out breathlessly.

"Ew!" He heard Anastasia's exclamation and smirked against his mate's flesh. "Get a room you two!"

"Come, mate," Ace said in a soft tone, "let them be."

Blake raised his head, and winked in gratitude in the direction of the weakest of his progeny.

"But Ace..." his daughter's protest died on her lips as her mate captured her lips in a sweet kiss.

"Get a room, kids." It was Blake's turn to tease them.
