Chapter Nine
Cleo's POV
If felt like electric was attacking my body as the guy picked me up. I didn't have the strength to care that he was holding me while we were both completely naked, the poison from the rogue's bite coursing through my blood. I gritted my teeth as I fought the urge to thrash in his arms as the burning became unbearable. The guy sensing my pain held closer to him and for some reason it helped take the edge off the pain. Suddenly I shot up and vomited as blood trickled from my nose. The guy panicked as he clung to me like a lifeline before picking up speed. I was so delirious that I hadn't registered we were in a hospital until a man in a long white coat stuck a needle into my arm. My body began to convulse as my eyes rolled to the back of my head.
"Shit. DOCTOR!" was all I heard before the feeling of electricity came back as the guy that carried me held me in place on the bed.
"She's going into shock. The anti-bodies aren't fighting the poison quick enough. She's a rogue so her body isn't strong enough to fight it"
"Do something! She can't die" The urgency in his voice made my heart hurt. He didn't know me yet fought for the doctor to help me. "There's only one thing that can help stabilise her long enough for the antibiotics to kick in❞
"Whatever it is do it..." Everything after that was mystery.

"Please when she's born you must take her" Pictures of the woman I somehow knew to be my birth mother begged her sister, the woman that raised me to take care of me. The look on her face proved she was frightened.
"Cecilia if he finds her..."
"Do you not think I know that? I pray to the goddess every night to end this pregnancy. I shouldn't I know. But to bring her into a world where he knows she exists... it doesn't bare thinking about" Tears flooded her eyes as they spoke about my father. It had to have been him. I was told he was an evil man but watching this unfold before my eyes had me wondering just how evil he was. To even contemplate losing your unborn child, she must have been desperate. "Even if I take her, how would I explain it to everyone. John won't allow us to put Daphne in danger, and that's exactly what she will be in if he finds her"
"He won't. I will get her power bound the moment she's born. Please sister, Abbie I don't have anyone else I can trust." I watched as they sat there in silence, both of them crying as the realisation of the trouble my birth mother was in began
to set.
Just as the next part was about to play out, they disappeared. The tingles of electrical sparks caressing my skin luring me out of my slumber. My eyes fluttered open to find the same guy that bought me here sitting beside me holding my hand. He was no longer covered in blood and dirt but dressed in jeans and a shirt. His hair dark blonde was short on the sides yet longer on top and combed back. His hand moved to my face those familiar sparks dancing along my skin. My mind darted back to when he found me in the woods. That exact same feeling happened then too only with my body full of rogue poison I thought I had been wrong.
"Mate" he purred as his eyes locked on my own.
"No... no this can't be happening!" As I pulled away from him all I could feel was rejection and hurt. It took a moment before I realised they weren't my feelings but his. This shouldn't have been possible unless... "Why? Please tell me this isn't real. Tell me that I'm still dreaming. PLEASE!" I screamed as my hand shot to my neck. Tears fell from my eyes as I felt the jagged edges of a mark on my neck.
"I didn't have a choice. If I hadn't have marked you, then you would have died. Is that what you would have preferred?"

"Don't do that. Its antibiotics. You need it to flush the rest of the infection from your blood." I knew what he said was true, I could still feel a slight burning under my skin. "Let me get the doctor. Please Cleo, just wait here" Nodding my head I watched as he left the room gently closing the door behind him. Standing from the bed my hands gripped the side rail as the room began to spin. Wheeling the stand my drip was attached to I went into the bathroom. Switching the light on my eyes winced as the florescent light blinked becoming brighter as they turned on. The moment my eyes adjusted to the light they shot to the mirror. The mark that sat on my skin resembled nothing of what a wolf mark would normally look like. I couldn't help myself, curiosity getting the better of me as my fingers traced over it. Instead of taking the shape of a moon, it looked more like a dodgy symbol. The crescent moon was there only it also had what seemed to be small crossed over stars at the points.
"Cleo... Can you come and sit down please?" I wanted to argue, to ignore everything that he asked of me. Yet for some reason I felt compelled to do as he asked. Once sat back on the bed the doctor gave me a small smile. It was clear the smile wasn't genuine, that for some reason he didn't want to be in the room with me. "Cleo this is Dr Baron. He's the lead physician at the Moonlight Packs hospital."
"Hello Cleo, I'm sure your full of questions, but if you would allow me to explain first?" I nodded to which the Dr dragged the chair and sat in in front of me. "When Roman here bought you in your body was fitting. We gave you adrenaline to keep your heart beating while we waited for the antibody vaccine to work, however it didn't. When you and your sister left your pack and became rogues, your ability to fight infections lessened. That happens because without being apart of a pack our wolves weaken over time eventually turning feral. I'm afraid that's what happened to the wolves that attacked you."
"But they were a pack. His wife is an alpha❞
"By title perhaps yes, but I'm afraid without holding a ceremony with an elder of the council present that's all it is." "So technically they are just a pack of rogues"
"Exactly, and with your wolf being weaker than normal the poison from the rogue's bite made you seriously ill. It was me that told Roman marking you would save your life. By having his alpha mark upon your skin, though he may not be an alpha to a pack, gave you a fraction of his strength. It gave your wolf the strength she needed to overcome the infection. The antibiotics here is just a precaution. I want to be certain your blood is clean. Now this will be finished within the next hour and as long as your blood test comes back fine, I don't see why I can't release you"

"Doctor wait... My sister where is she?" I had hoped he was ok, that someone got to her, but judging by the look on his face that wasn't the case.
"She was discharged this morning under the condition she begins physiotherapy in the morning. I'm afraid to know more you would have to speak with her yourself." I watched silently as the doctor left the room leaving me alone with the man that marked me.
"She will be ok eventually. The doctors here are good. Look Cleo, I know you don't know me, but I assure you what ever that witch showed you... I won't let it happen. I will keep you safe. I just need you to give me the chance to prove it to you."
"Your right I don't know you. All I know is that I have no plans to die and all I want to do is get my sister and leave. I have things I need to..."
"To find out. About your father I assume. Daphne told my brother about you being adopted. I can help you find out who he is if you like. Afterall, you won't want to be going off on your own anytime soon." A smug look crossed his face as he spoke. Daphne and I had been on our own our entire lives, I didn't need a mate then and I sure as hell don't didn't need one now.
"What makes you so certain?"
"Because now I've marked you, you'll go into heat within the week"
