Fated To Roman: The Almighty Alpha

Chapter Eight

Daphne's POV

Everything happened so quickly from that day. Had Cleo just done as I asked her and left me, everything would have been ok. She never would have found him, and I never would have ended things the way I did. That place had done nothing but tear us apart. We had spent our entire lives together, always having each other's back. The day she found out who she really was happened to be the same day he found out she existed. He became the reason everything happened the way it did. Present day...

Never in my life had I seen a white wolf. Sure I had heard of them, everyone had. But they were incredibly rare. The ground shook beneath my feet as I tried to stand causing me to lose balance and topple back over. Having heard the heavy pounding of paws as more wolves approached, I knew we were in trouble. That was until they came into view. They didn't smell like rogues which bought an all new kind of trouble our way. There was no doubt we had made the mistake of stumbling onto pack territory. My eyes remained glued to the white wolf as it approached my sisters wolf, killing each rogue that had attacked us. The black wolf I knew was an alpha. Apart from the white wolf his form was bigger than the rest. My jaw dropped to the ground as he shifted revealing a drop dead gorgeous guy. My stomach sinking as my eyes fell on the mark etched into his neck. Of course, he was marked, tough luck for me. Putting on some shorts he turned to face the guy Todd who remained in his wolf form. Forming a fist, I watched as he rendered him unconscious with a single punch. One of the other guys offered me his hand helping me to my feet until an agonising pain rippled through me, my ass hitting the ground with a thud.

"I can't... my leg, it's broken"

"When did it happen?" By the strength of his voice, I figured he was ranked but unsure as to whether he was a beta or a gamma. Either way I didn't mind because he was fine.

"A few days ago" I responded through gritted teeth as the guy picked me up bridal style and began to walk back into the woods. "Wait... my sister. I can't leave her... PLEASE!" The man just smirked at me as I begged him to let me see she was ok, only he continued on his way.

"Your sister is fine. Roman is with her. As for your leg it should have healed by now. I'm taking you to the pack hospital" unable to sense whether or not he was lying I shut up. Deep down I knew Cleo would be fine. She was fighter and so was her wolf. Yet again she had to have been seriously injured if what the rogues did was anything to go by.

I must have passed out because when I woke up it was no longer dark but daytime. The sun was beaming through the blinds, burning and stinging my eyes. As I lifted my hand a sharp pain made me place it back down. Through squinting eyes I was able to spot a cannula. Fear coursed through me having not remembered getting here let alone into this god-awful nighty. As I sat up and tried to pull the cannula out, one of the machines began to go haywire. Within seconds a woman with brown hair in a bun came rushing into the room. Without so much as a glance in my direction she fiddled with the machines silencing the alarm.

"Where am I" was all I was able to say before I felt the sharp sting of a needle enter my neck. My vision began to blur as I felt my heart rate slow. By the time whatever sedative the woman gave me began to wear off I could just about make out voices. I couldn't for the life of recognise them which frightened me. Where was I? Where was my sister? So many questions formed in my mind as I thought about how we even ended up here. Had I come clean years ago about Cleo being adopted then all of this could have been avoided. We could have gotten the information we needed sooner and then we never would have gone to Alpha Sara.

"The surgery went well; her leg had begun to heal in the entirely wrong position which is probably why she was in such intense pain. We had to re break the leg in four places and insert a metal rod for the bone to heal correctly. There is however one thing that will be life changing for this young woman. Due to the extent of her injury and the way in which we had to repair it; she won't be able to shift again."

"Surely doc there has to be away. Can you not remove the rod once she's better?"

"I'm afraid not Alpha. That rod has had to be inserted into the centre of bone. Normally temporary bolts and brace would have worked, but not this time. The injury was just to severe" it was just too much information to process before I fell unconscious again. I didn't know how long had passed before I was finally able to open my eyes. The room was in complete darkness except for the small lamp next to the hospital bed. As I scanned the room a nurse walked in offering me a small smile. She told me I'd been out for two days, that the surgery on my leg along with the pain killers they had given me had taken it out of me. Placing a sandwich and glass of water on the table, she told me to get some rest. That the doctor would be in to me when the morning shift begins.

It had to have been the best sleep of my life and no doubt that pain relief was to thank. When the doctor eventually came to see me, he bought with him the guy I remembered seeing from the forest. He was even hotter in the daylight, whoever his mate is was one lucky woman.

"Good morning young lady, I'm Dr. Baron and this here is Alpha Kai. Your currently in the pack hospital of the Moonlight Pack. When the Alpha found you, you were in a bad way. Do you remember anything?"

"I remember rogues chasing us. We were running and my wolf hadn't seen the cliffs edge before it was too late. I remember my bone breaking and piercing the skin. Everything after that is a bit fuzzy. I remember bits and pieces but not everything"

"Yes well, your leg had healed only the bones hadn't fused together properly. When Beta Eric bought you in, we took you for emergency surgery. We were able to fix your leg and the pain should begin to ease off over the next few days. There was however a complication. In order to correct your leg, we had to re break it. We had to drill metal rods into the centre of the bone in order to hold them in place correctly. I'm sorry young lady, but you won't be able to shift again" tears soaked my face as I took in the meaning of what he had said. I would never get to feel the wind through my fur, the ground beneath my paws and Hazel would never again be free.

"You haven't lost your wolf; you can still communicate with her" my eyes darted to the Alpha as he spoke. "What's your name?"

"Daphne Barton. Where is my sister?"

"Cleo is ok. She received some pretty nasty infections as a result of the rogue bites, but she will be ok. I do however need to know why they were chasing you"

"Their leader Todd, he blamed Cleo for his wife making him leave. He led my sister to believe he was a single guy when he wasn't. It wasn't until after they slept together that she found out."

"And Cleo. Alpha Sara told Todd to leave, and he wanted revenge. They may have been rogues, but they were a pack"

"Did she not see his mark? I'm sorry but that would have been a dead giveaway"

"She couldn't see it, neither did I when we first met him. He told Cleo a witch made it for him to conceal his bond to his mate allowing him to do whatever he pleased. It was invisible to anyone that wasn't his mate."

"Well, my brothers going to be pissed when he hears why they wanted you. The doctor is going to keep you here until you're ready to leave and then we will see what I can do to help you. Ok?"

"Wait! You said your brother is with Cleo. Why will he be angry. He doesn't know us"

"Your right he doesn't. Cleo however in a way he does. She is his mate after all." The moment those words left his mouth I felt instantly sick. I had failed my sister again. We had spent the last six months running and for what. He had found her and there was no way he would let her go now.
