Chapter Six
Romans POV Six months. That's how long it's been since I left Agatha's shop, and still I haven't found my mate. I knew her name and what she looked like so it shouldn't have been this hard. I'd sent word to my contacts at my family's security firm with Cleo's details and even they came up empty handed. How the fuck could one seventeen-year-old girl avoid being seen for this long. I mean teenagers these days are attached to social media so there should have been a trail to follow but she had zero accounts. I was about to move on to the next town over when my phone started ringing my mums number showing on the screen. Hitting reject I stuck it back in my pocket. I already knew what she wanted and had already agreed to attend even though I didn't want to. My brother found his mate two weeks ago and they were having her Luna ceremony this weekend. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for Kai, but the last thing I wanted to do was sit and play happy families when my illusive mate was in the wind. I needed her to complete me, to keep me routed and sain. Having Alpha blood meant the longer we were unmated the more likely we were to lose the plot. With all the rumours about me flying around I didn't need to make them all true.
'We will find her. Our grandmother wouldn't have fated us with her if not' Balthazar was adamant we would find and claim her. I on the other hand not so much. It was obvious she didn't want to be found. Luckily for me I didn't have a pack to run so had the time to find her. Pushing my wolf back I started my engine and headed home.
Arriving back at the Moonlight Pack I sighed. It may have been my home, but I hated it here. All the pressure my brother and I used to face growing up was horrific. No child next alpha or not should grow up forced to learn to fight from the age of five. I understood why the lessons became intense when I turned ten as I got my wolf, but before that was unnecessary. As I approached the guard post Eric was standing there his arms crossed over his chest. Eric was Kai's beta. Traditionally the son of the previous beta would have taken the position but as that technically would have been me and Kai it didn't happen. Our other father was an Alpha as was our mother, so Kai had no choice but to take a chosen beta. Eric had been Kai's best mate growing up so for him it was an easy decision, though he still had to go through the title ceremony first. The title ceremony was performed by the Alpha King which was now my grandfather Jake. Our great- grandfather William passed the title down to him and our grandmother Angel when he retired. Having only had a daughter, William changed the law to enable his daughter to take his place. Only that never happened. Our grandmother believed the kingdom should remain with a male lead and so allowed her mate to take control even though she became queen. The ceremony wasn't a guaranteed thing as the ritual used allowed the moon goddess to strengthen the blood making them a higher rank. A new bloodline if you will. The catch, you had to be pure of heart for the change to take place. If the moon goddess had rejected Eric, then Kai would have been forced to either pick again or seek a future beta from another pack. The only trouble there was that not everyone would be willing to leave their packs. Even if it was for the beta position.
"Roman" Eric nodded as he gave permission for the guard to open the gate. "You around tonight? A few of us are going into town to celebrate your brother finding his mate"
"I'll think about. I'm only here for the ceremony then I'll be back on the road. Got a mate of my own to find"
"Ah the red head you've been searching for. Kai told me you were having trouble finding her. Got any leads?" Fucking Kai needed to learn to keep his mouth shut. I didn't want anyone I didn't personally trust to know of Cleo. The more people that knew her name and what she looked like the more danger she would be in. Thanks to my father's uncle several bounty hunters had come for me, each of them scared of what I could be capable of. If one of them knew Cleo excited and her link to me, they would use her as bate. I couldn't let that happen.
"I need you to keep that information to yourself do you understand me?"
"Come on man you can trust me"
"No offence 'man' but you aren't my friend. Your Kai's. Just because he might trust you doesn't mean I will. Beta of this pack or not I will take you out if I find you have remotely breathed my mates name" I growled as I spoke. My alpha tone emphasising each word I spoke. Eric took a step back and gulped as he realised, I meant what I'd said. Turning my attention back to the road ahead I speed forward covering Eric with the roads dust.
'Served the little prick right. Maybe now he will know his place. Little man doesn't know us and yet thinks he can speak to us like a friend. Kai should have chosen better' In a way Balthazar was right, I've killed people for less. Eric should have considered himself lucky. Kai however was on a trial run as alpha, it set to become final once his Luna is crowned. Normally the next in line takes over between eighteen and twenty-one, but Kai had always been immature, so our parents stayed in control until he had grown up a bit.

'Settle down wolf if he steps out of line again, I will deal with him. Let's just remain as calm as possible while we're here' Out of all the elements I controlled, the fire was the strongest being as it was tied to my anger. 'Fine, but I want out. Tonight is a full moon and I need to recharge'
'Ok under the condition you keep the carnage to a minimum' Balthazar nodded in response. He hated when I wouldn't shift, though it was his own fault. When he had control, he would refuse to shift back and would destroy anything in his path, our anger merging together to which he would release. When he finally would give back control, I have found entire forests burned to mere ash. Once he retreated, I pulled up out the front of the pack house. I hadn't been back here in two years, the thought of being here now instantly depressing me. As I got out the car, I spotted Layla's minibus in front of the garage. She was devastated when she had to buy it, though it was her own fault the woman just wouldn't stop having children. By my count she now had five.
As I walked through the door, I made my way to Kai's office. The door was ajar so staying quiet I listened in. Eric was bitching to my brother about the way I spoke to him. Bastard must have shifter to get here before me. Well, that had just sealed his fate. No respectful beta would slag off their Alpha's older brother which just proved he needed to go.
"If you have a problem with me you scrawny little bastard then come on let's take it outside." Kai roared with laughter as Eric looked like he was about to shit his pants. Eric was no match for me, and they both knew it. I was tall and muscly while he was just fucking lanky. I've seen women beefier than him.

"Roman I didn't mean anything bad. I just think there was no reason for the way you were at the gate" Eric put his hands up in surrender as I growled.
"For fucks sake Eric just leave. Make sure the next shift has begun and go home" Kai leaned back in his chair, his feet on his desks as he shook his head laughing. Kai was too laid back for an Alpha, something our parents had spoken to him about several times. It seemed to just go in one ear and out the other however. When Eric shut the door behind him, Kai ran his hand through his long brown hair. His hair sat just above his shoulders which he normally had in a ponytail. He looked more like our mother where I looked more like our father Axel just with our other father Hectors hair. "Did you have to cause a scene? You've been here what, ten minutes? Roman I know you don't like the way I have things and the wolves I have for beta and gamma, but it's my choice not yours. If you wanted a say then you should have taken the title instead of running after some she-wolf that doesn't want you"
"Believe me brother I don't want this pack you can keep it. I promise you one thing though with a dick head like that as beta, you better pray you don't find yourself at war" "He's tougher than he looks"
"Somehow, I don't believe that for a second. Anyway, congratulations on finding your mate. What's her name?" Taking a seat opposite Kai, I waited for him to tell me.
