Chapter 5- The Invite
Avery was glad when her shift was over, but that didn't mean she could go home. She had a visit with Alpha Grey first. So she took a detour, going down the path she hardly took. As she walked on, she wondered what to expect. She had only been to his place once before and that was when she got tired of Cassie bothering her, so she hit her in the face with a metal food tray several times.
She soon paused as she got closer to the house, because there outside was her other mate, the Alpha's brother, chopping wood. With no shirt on, and sweat dripping down his perfect down.
"Holy pit hole," Avery said aloud, continuing to stare at him.
"Like what you see?" He paused his task to smirk at her.
"Sean, I- no. Yes." Avery shook her head.
"You don't have to be nervous, if I had known you were coming over, I would have made myself more presentable."
"No, you are fine the way you are. I'm actually here to see your brother."
"My brother!" Sean dropped the axe, growling.
"Yes, he is my mate as well and I'm here to have him explain a few things to me about how all this is possible."
Sean was still growling. "I don't want you anywhere near him."
"Yeah. I don't think that will work, he's my mate and the Alpha."
"Fine, but I'm coming with you."
Avery quickly rattled her brain, thinking that she had encountered all four of her mates in a day and they all had much different responses than the others. Sean's behavior she expected, she thought they all would be jealous, threatening to rip each other's throat out. But Alpha and Cruz were more mature than Sean, by telling her they respected her decision, while Roger was indifferent.
"Ok, so..." Avery pointed over her shoulder before making her way to the front door. Sean was hot on her heel, hardly giving her space to breathe.
She was about to knock, but Sean reached around her and pushed the door open.
"Right." Avery let out.
"My brother is in his study," Sean said, his voice dripping venom and Avery was waiting for him to hoist her over his shoulder and carry her to his room instead.
When they made it to the second floor, Avery practically rushed over to his office and was about to knock but he opened the door before she could. "Shane," she said, smiling up at him.
Alpha Grey didn't normally let anyone address him by his first name, but the way his name rolled off his mate's tongue, he thought he could allow it just for her.
He smiled down at her, then used his thumb to pull her lip from between her teeth.
"Please don't do that, not unless you want us to bond here and now." He teased.
Avery's face went red and she couldn't help but bite her lip again as thoughts of what Shane might do to her played out in her mind. She tried to fight off the thought, but instinct was taking over. They were telling her to choose the Alpha, to now and forget about everyone else.
Avery leaned up to kiss him, she didn't expect him to receive her kiss for some reason, but Alpha Grey did. He even placed one hand on her waist and the around on her neck, as their tongues soon became entangled.
A growl was what caused them to stop, suddenly, Avery was being pulled away by strong arms.
"I don't want you anywhere near mate," Sean warned his brother, his eyes flashed golden. A tall sign that his wolf was close to the surface.
"Brother, Avery is my mate as well as two others. I can smell them on her, but I'm not going to be possessive over her, she has a decision to make and we can't force her hand." Alpha Grey said calmly.
But Avery could see it in his eyes that he was fighting an internal battle. He wanted to tear his brother apart, assert dominance as Alpha but he was holding back, for her sake.
