Four Mates And A She Wolf

Chapter 7 - Preparing for the dinner

As Avery left the Alpha's house, her mind buzzed with a whirlwind of emotions. The encounter with Sean had left her feeling conflicted, her heart torn between her feelings for him and the undeniable connection she shared with Alpha Shane. She couldn't shake off the image of Sean's hurt expression as he walked away, his words echoing in her mind.

With a heavy heart, Avery made her way home, her footsteps echoing in the quiet streets. As she approached her house, she could see the warm glow of the lights spilling out from the windows, casting a welcoming embrace over the familiar surroundings.

Pushing open the door, Avery was greeted by the comforting aroma of her mom's cooking, the scent of spices and herbs filling the air. She found her mom bustling about in the kitchen, a look of concentration on her face as she tended to the pots and pans on the stove.

"Hey, Mom," Avery said, stepping into the kitchen. "I'm home."

Her mom turned, a bright smile lighting up her face. "Hey, sweetie! How was your day?"

Avery hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to articulate the whirlwind of emotions she was feeling. "It was... eventful," she finally said, opting for a vague response.

Her mom raised an eyebrow, sensing the underlying tension in Avery's voice. "Is everything okay, honey?"

Avery sighed, running a hand through her hair. "I don't know, Mom. Things are just... complicated right now."

Her mom nodded understandingly, setting aside the wooden spoon she had been using to stir the pot. "Well, why don't you tell me all about it while we finish getting dinner ready?"

Avery nodded gratefully, grateful for the opportunity to unload her thoughts and feelings onto someone she trusted implicitly.

As they worked side by side in the kitchen, Avery recounted the events of the evening, from the tense confrontation with Shane and Sean to the passionate kiss she had shared with Sean before leaving. Her mom listened attentively, offering words of comfort and wisdom when needed.

"It sounds like you're in a bit of a tough spot, sweetheart," her mom said, once Avery had finished speaking. "But remember, ultimately, you have to follow your heart."

Avery nodded thoughtfully, her mind whirling with the weight of her mom's words. "Yeah, I know. It's just... hard, you know?"

Her mom reached out, placing a comforting hand on Avery's shoulder. "I know, honey. But whatever you decide, just know that I'll always be here for you, no matter what."

Avery smiled gratefully, feeling a surge of warmth at her mom's unwavering support. "Thanks, Mom. I don't know what I'd do without you."

After the dinner preparations were completed, Avery retreated to her room to get ready for the evening ahead. As she closed the door behind her, she took a moment to breathe deeply, allowing herself a moment of solitude to collect her thoughts.

Moving to her closet, Avery scanned the rows of clothing, searching for the perfect outfit for the occasion. After a moment of deliberation, she settled on a sleeveless mid-summer dress, its soft fabric adorned with delicate floral patterns that seemed to dance in the dim light of her room.

Slipping out of her daytime attire, Avery let the dress cascade down her body, the fabric whispering against her skin as she adjusted the straps. She twirled in front of the mirror, admiring the way the dress hugged her curves, its vibrant colors accentuating her sun-kissed complexion.

Satisfied with her choice, Avery moved to her dresser, where she carefully selected a pair of dangling earrings and a delicate necklace to complement her ensemble. With a final glance in the mirror, she smiled at her reflection, feeling a surge of confidence wash over her.

As she made her way back to the kitchen to help her mom with the final touches, Avery couldn't shake off the nervous butterflies fluttering in her stomach. Tonight was more than just a family dinner-it was an opportunity for her to bridge the gap between Shane and Sean, to mend the rift that had formed between them.

As she entered the kitchen, she found her mom putting the finishing touches on the meal, the tantalizing aroma of roasted chicken and fresh vegetables filling the air. "Hey, Mom," Avery said, offering a smile as she approached. "Do you need any help with anything?"

Her mom turned, a warm smile lighting up her face. "Actually, I think we're all set here," she said, gesturing to the table set with an array of delicious dishes. "But thank you for offering, sweetheart. Why don't you go ahead and relax for a bit before everyone arrives?"

Avery nodded gratefully, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. "Thanks, Mom. I think I'll do just that."

With a quick kiss on her mom's cheek, Avery retreated to the living room, where she settled onto the plush sofa, allowing herself a moment of quiet reflection. As she waited for her mates to arrive, her mind wandered to the events of the day, the kiss she had shared with Sean and Alpha Shane still fresh in her memory.

As Avery watched her family prepare to have her four mates under one roof for the first time, she couldn't shake the nervous fluttering in her stomach. It wasn't every day that one found themselves in a situation like this, surrounded by the people they are supposed to care about most, especially when those people happened to be her mates, not just one.

As she moved about the house watching the final preparations for the evening ahead, Avery couldn't help but wonder how the dynamics would play out. Would her mates get along with each other? Would there be any tension or awkwardness? These were questions that lingered at the back of her mind, despite her best efforts to push them aside.

Roger was the wild card in the equation. She wasn't sure if he would show up or not. Ever since he moved to this Pack, no one knows a thing about him. He always kept to himself. But despite it all, there was a part of Avery that hoped he would be there, that hoped they could finally put the past behind them and move forward together.

With a deep breath, Avery pushed aside her doubts and focused on the task at hand. She wanted tonight to be perfect, a chance for her mates to come together and bond over a shared meal and good company.

As the evening drew nearer, Avery found herself growing increasingly restless, her mind consumed by thoughts of what was to come. She checked her phone repeatedly, half expecting to see a message from Roger, confirming whether or not he would be joining them.

But as the minutes ticked by and there was still no word from him, Avery's heart sank. She tried to push aside her disappointment, reminding herself that tonight was about more than just Roger-it was about celebrating the bonds she shared with her other mates, about building a future together as a family.

Just as Avery was about to sit down and wait for her mates to arrive, there was a soft knock at the door. Her heart skipped a beat as she hurried to answer it, her pulse racing with anticipation.
