Chapter 1002: People's Money
Eloise and her mother returned to the ward and had just sat down when Hector walked in.
"Solved?" Eloise asked.
"Sort of."
The ambiguous answer left Eloise a little puzzled, "What do you mean?"
"He doesn't need my help." Hector said.
"No? So he can fix it himself?"
It's not that Eloise doesn't have faith in her cousin, but the enemy's intentions are too sinister.
Hector rubbed her head, "Trust him."
Eloise sighed softly, "Okay."
Maryam, who was listening on the sidelines, was confused, "What are you talking about, is there something you need Hector's help with?"
"It's nothing. Just a problem with my cousin at work." Eloise replied gently, fearing that her mother would worry along with her.
Maryam frowned, "Is it serious?"
"It's not serious, it's just a little problem. Hector said that his cousin can fix it himself, so don't worry."
Eloise passed a look at Hector.
Hector understood and spoke slowly, "Mum, Edgar has just taken over the Khan Group, there are always little problems, he will sort them out himself, don't worry." Maryam nodded, "That's good, I was worried something big was going to happen."
"Mum, you don't believe me when I say it, you have to believe Hector when he says it."
Eloise feigned anger.
Maryam burst out laughing, "What are you kids talking about, I believe everything you say."
Eloise laughed, "Come on, I'm just kidding with you."
"What's the conversation about? So happy."
At that moment, a familiar voice rang out.
The three people in the ward looked around at the sound of the voices, which turned out to be Baggott and Brimlad.
One of them carried a fruit basket and the other a thermos.
"Third sister, this is the chicken soup I made, so drink it later while it's hot." Brimlad said to Maryam as he put the thermos on the coffee table.
Maryam looked bemused, "Why did you bring the stew again? It doesn't have to be such a hassle."
"Third sister, if you say that again, I'll get angry." Brimlad looked at her with feigned displeasure.
Maryam sighed, "I was afraid you'd have a hard time."
"As long as you get well, I don't work hard at all."
This was a very moving statement to Eloise, not to mention Maryam.
"Auntie, thank you."
Brimlad turned his head and glanced at her, "What are you saying thank you to me, you child, is it purely to annoy me?"
When Eloise heard this, she rushed over to her and put her arms around her, pouting, "Auntie is the best, how can you be angry with me?" Brimlad was amused as she glanced at Hector, "When did you get to Kyoto?"
"Just arrived this afternoon."
"So is there a meal?"
Eloise nodded, "Eaten."
"If you're hungry, there's enough chicken soup for you two."
At that, Eloise said hastily, "No, I'm not hungry."
Hector smiled back, "Thanks Auntie, I'm not hungry either."
Brimlad took the fruit basket from Baggott, "Would you like some fruit?" "Fruit is fine."
Eloise picked out a few apples, "I'll go and wash and peel them."
With that, he ran into the bathroom.
Brimlad frowned, "Why do I feel as if Eloise is resistant to chicken soup?"
She cast a quizzical glance at Hector.
The latter said calmly, "Because my mother has been making chicken soup for the past few days."
That's why Eloise is scared of chicken soup.
"So that's it." It dawned on Brimlad, and then she noticed that Hector had been standing and said, "Hector, you sit down too."
At this point, Baggott thoughtfully spoke up and offered, "Hector, would it be convenient to talk to me outside for a few minutes?" Hector nods his head.
The two men walked out of the ward one after the other.
"Brimlad, why do I notice that Teng doesn't seem to be looking very well?" Maryam looked over at Brimlad who was busy serving chicken soup.
Brimlad gave his hand a beat and then whirled around and laughed, "He's always been like that... you're overthinking it, third sister."
"Is that so?" Maryam frowned, she always felt something was wrong.
"Of course I am." Brimlad handed her the bowl with the chicken soup, "Well, whatever's going on with him, it's not for you to worry about. The most important thing for you to do now is to drink the chicken soup." Looking at the bowl of chicken soup in her hand, Maryam shook her head and sighed, "Don't really stew in the future, I'm much better."
"We'll talk about that later." Brimlad put the bowl in her hand, "For now drink it."
With no choice, Maryam had to meekly drink the chicken soup.
...
Exiting the ward, Baggott walked straight to the end of the corridor, with Hector following him.
"Hector," Baggott turned to face Hector, "you should have known about Frankson."
Hector nodded, "Yeah, I got it."
Baggott sighed heavily, "Who do you think was so ruthless in their methods? As soon as Frankson is dead, the warehouse fire will be dead on arrival."
"Doesn't my brother-in-law have the answer in mind?" Hector asked rhetorically.
Baggott froze, then reacted and couldn't help but smile, "You're really clever."
He did have the answer, he just didn't want to accept it.
"Brother-in-law, sometimes it's not that if you don't want to hurt someone, they won't hurt you. We don't actively hurt people, but once they hurt us, we should protect ourselves even if we don't fight back." Hector's words left Baggott in a state of contemplation.
After a long time, he sighed, "I understand what you're saying. It's just that I guess if your grandfather woke up, he wouldn't want to see the Khan family fall apart. Even if he didn't like your great-uncle and uncle, he wouldn't want to see us three brothers fall out."
Hector could understand how he felt, but now the other side had disregarded the affection.
Brother-in-law and Edgar would have ended up in a bad way if they had remained soft-hearted.
"Brother-in-law, how's the investigation into Grandpa's car accident going?" Hector suddenly asked.
Baggott froze slightly, but quickly responded, "The police findings are that the car was indeed tampered with, but they haven't found out exactly who it was."
Hector's eyes narrowed slightly, "Has brother-in-law ever thought about who was best served by Grandpa's accident at the time?"
"Of course it was ..." Baggott was about to name the man subconsciously, but the next moment he looked at Hector with wide eyes and disbelief, "You.. you don't suspect him of doing it, do you?"
"Because it's all so coincidental, I just have a reasonable suspicion."
Baggott shook his head, "No way, that's his grandfather, how could he be so mean?"
"People die for money."
Four simple words that say it all.
But Baggott still couldn't believe it, "Arlice, although bent on getting the Khan Group, could never have done something so heartless."
"Brother-in-law, I just suspect." Hector said in a light voice, "Grandpa's car accident is already certain to be man-made, and to be honest, everyone in the Khan family is a suspect."
Baggott sighed heavily, "I'll get the police to look into it."
He was confident that the police would give him a result.
