Love Comes To Me

Chapter 1335: Why You Need His Consent

Edgar hung up the phone and let out a long sigh of relief.

Luckily, his mother hadn't realized anything was wrong, or it would have been endless again.

At last he could eat a bowl of noodles in peace.

When he arrived at Edwina's house, Bonnie saw him come in and came bounding over on her little paws, calling in a twitching voice, "Uncle Edgar." Edgar reached out and stroked her head, smiling, "Are you finished with your homework?"

Bonnie nodded, "Yes, I did."

"Are you hungry?" Edwina asked.

"A little. Have you cooked the noodles yet?" asked Edgar, his eyes looking toward the dining room.

"They'll be ready in a minute, so go wash your hands."

With those words, Edwina turned and headed for the kitchen.

Edgar watched her walk into the kitchen before looking at Bonnie, "Come on, let's go wash our hands."

"Okay."

The two of them washed their hands one after the other.

After the noodles were cooked, Edwina handed Edgar a large bowl.

"That much?" Edgar froze.

"You work too hard, eat more.

I don't know if it was his fault, but Edwina felt he had lost a little weight.

Edgar lost his smile, "If you feed me like this, I could get fat as a pig."

"Then you have to eat every day, too."

Edwina led him out of the kitchen.

Edgar followed her, half jokingly, half seriously, "When we get married, won't I be able to eat every day?"

Edwina stopped in her tracks, then turned and continued, "We've only been together how long, it's too soon to get married." Her tone was calm, but inside she was agitated.

Her mother didn't approve of them being together, that marriage thing, it just wasn't possible.

"Where would it be early, no flash marriages now? We can try that too."

Edwina set the bowl down on the table and turned, staring at him, "Edgar, are you serious or are you joking?"

Edgar looked serious, "Do I look like I'm kidding?".

Edwina shook her head.

He laughed softly out loud, "Why are you so silly? I'm asking you to marry me, don't you hear me?".

Edwina was silent for a few seconds and changed the subject, "Eat before the noodles get lumpy. My name is Bonnie." With that, she hurried to Bonnie's room.

Seeing her back to him, Edgar's eyebrows furrowed slightly, was she running away?

As he entered the room, Edwina paused, her nose sore and her eyes foggy.

How could she dare to think that their relationship was going to end well?

Thinking about what her mother had said was like someone choking her throat, so hard she couldn't breathe.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Bonnie asked with concern as she approached her and noticed something was wrong.

Edwina instantly came to her senses, reached up to wipe away her tears, squeezed out a smile and said, "Nothing, it's the smoked onion I just cut into my eyes." "Is it hard?" asked Bonnie again.

Edwina shook her head, "No, not really. Go out and eat your noodles."

"Let's go eat noodles."

Bonnie ran off happily.

The smile on Edwina's face slowly faded and she took a deep breath before slowly walking out.

Edgar sat in the dining room, watching her approach, and when he got closer, he saw that her eyes were red.

"Are you crying?" asked Edgar.

Before Edwina could say anything, Bonnie beat him to it, "Mama's not crying, she just smoked her eyes when she cut the onions."

Onions?

Edgar frowned and turned his head to look at the bowl of noodles, and there were no onions.

She was lying.

But he didn't hold anything against her, but laughed, "So that's what happened, so be careful from now on."

Edwina smiled and said nothing.

During the noodles, it was all Bonnie talking, Edwina occasionally echoed a couple of words, and the rest of the time she was quietly eating the noodles. Something was happening to her.

Edgar looked at her and his expression sank slightly.

After finishing the noodles, Edgar told Bonnie to go back to her room to study her homework, and pulled Edwina out onto the balcony.

"What's wrong with you today?" asked Edgar with concern.

"I... I'm fine."

Edgar looked at her deeply, "Edwina, I'm your boyfriend, if you ever have problems, you can talk to me, I'm willing to share them with you." Emotion instantly flooded his heart.

Edwina's eyes moistened at the corners and she pursed her lips, "Edgar, I'm very well, don't worry."

"Then let's go register our marriage."

Edgar's subject changed so quickly that Edwina didn't react and froze instantly.

"You're the first woman I've met in over twenty years to give me the idea of marriage." Edgar took her hand and continued, "Then let's get married." His vision blurred and hot tears welled up.

Edwina moved her mouth, almost telling him yes.

But the thought of Dulce was like a cold shower from head to toe.

It was a moment of clarity.

If she and Edgar got the marriage license, there wouldn't be a moment's peace in their married life.

"Why are you crying?" Edgar wiped away her tears and sneered helplessly, "Are you too moved?"

Edwina took a deep breath, suppressing the bitterness in her heart, and spoke slowly, "Edgar, I'm not mentally prepared to get married."

"Why?" asked Edgar, puzzled.

"Do you think marriage is as simple as getting a license?". asked Edwina not very rhetorically.

"You want a proposal, don't you?".

Edgar misunderstood what she meant.

Edwina shook her head, "No."

"Then what is it about?" Edgar didn't understand, it was obvious they loved each other and it would be nice for her to have the added security of being married, wouldn't it? Edwina gritted her teeth and asked bluntly, "Do your parents approve?"

Edgar froze, "I'm getting married, why do I need their permission?"

"Because they are your parents. Without their blessing, even if we were to marry, it would be difficult for me to gain a foothold in the Khan family."

She had made it so clear that he must have known what he feared.

"No, Edwina, as long as we love each other, what others think doesn't matter at all ..."

"Of course it matters, where doesn't it matter?" Edwina took a deep breath and asked patiently, "They don't accept me, they don't recognize me, they even have other ideal candidates for daughter-in-law, how am I going to get along with them in the future?"

Edgar frowned, "Edwina, tell me frankly, did my parents look you up?".

Edwina didn't answer.

But Edgar knew that her silence meant yes.

"Edwina, listen to me." Edgar took her hand again, and his gaze rested on her for a moment. "If my parents say something harsh, don't take it personally. And it's me you love, don't listen to them."

"Don't listen to them?" Edwina's heart sank, aggressiveness suddenly surged, emotions could no longer tense, she blurted out, "I don't want to listen to them either, but, my job is gone."
