Love Comes To Me

Chapter 1397: Faking your own death?

Rawlins received a call from his assistant and learned that The Chavez family, The Villegas family, The Camero family and The Alanzo family were in trouble and too busy to be distracted from dealing with the Leoz Group.

To be honest, he was not surprised by the situation.

If Marcos was so easy to deal with, he wouldn't have been in business for so many years.

However, he could not afford to be distracted at the moment.

The most important thing for him right now was Earlene's funeral.

He had to take Earlene out of this world with dignity.

The entire Bartram family was in mourning and Earlene's funeral was held in the sanctuary behind the villa.

Earlene's friends and relatives of the Bartram family came to pay their respects, and although there was a good turnout, there was still an awful silence.

"Rawlins, I'm sorry for your loss." A relative approached Rawlins and whispered.

Rawlins nodded softly and said nothing, not a single expression on his handsome face.

At that moment, the butler rushed over and whispered something in his ear, only to see his face change slightly.

"Keep an eye on the place, I'll go out and take a look."

With that, Rawlins started up.

"Prince."

As he left, one of his men greeted him.

"Where are the men?" Rawlins asked.

"Outside the villa."

The henchman led Rawlins to the corner of the villa, pointed to the figures pacing back and forth outside and said, "They showed up this morning and have been hanging around outside for a long time, peering in from time to time." Rawlins looked at the figures, his eyes narrowed slightly, a look in them, "Any idea who they are?"

"I don't know yet."

"Investigate." Rawlins ordered.

"Yes."

His men directed the order and hurried away, leaving Rawlins standing alone, looking at the few people outside with a deadly stare.

Who were they, what exactly did they intend?

Soon, the men investigated the identity of the other men.

"Is that the police?" Rawlins was a little surprised.

The henchman nodded, "Yes, plainclothes police."

Rawlins frowned, now that Earlene was dead and the case was closed, why were the police still watching his door?

What the hell did they want?

Rawlins tugged at his tie, annoyed.

"Prince, why can't I find a reason to get rid of them?". His men saw he was angry and suggested.

Rawlins held up his hand to signal him not to, "They're cops, we can't move."

"Then what?"

"Whatever they want."

Rawlins was tired from the last two days of preparing for Earlene's funeral and really didn't want to get involved with the police any more than he already had or it would be endless again. In fact, the main reason the police were sent to spy on the Bartram family was because Earlene's death was so strange.

Officer Natal recalled Earlene's condition after her death and always felt that something was not right.

"Normally, when people die, they should be pale and have white lips, and then their body is stiff and cold. But Earlene ...," said Officer Natal, "the more I thought about it, the more wrong I was." The coroner in charge of examining Earlene thought about it and said, "Her face is pale but calm and her body is still soft, like she's asleep."

"Yes, that's the feeling." Officer Natal nodded with a thump on the table.

"Could the person not be dead?" The coroner ventured a guess.

"No, she's dead." Officer Natal shook his head, "Except it could have been a fake death."

The coroner frowned, "Is there really a drug that could make someone fake their death?"

"There are no wonders in this world." Officer Natal tapped his fingers on the tabletop, his eyes slowly narrowed with a hint of hardness. "If it really is a faked death, then Earlene is guilty of everything."

...

Paulina read the rumors about Marcos and Earlene on the Internet and got so angry that she just covered up her laptop.

Earlene is dead and the Bartram family is still not at peace.

Did they really think The Leoz Family was a bully?

Marcos enters the room and sees her look of exasperation, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he walks up to her and asks quietly, "Who bothered you?"

Paulina looks at him and sighs heavily, "I'm fine, but are you okay?".

Mark raised an eyebrow, "If you're asking if the internet news has affected me, the answer is no."

Paulina let out a soft laugh, "And yes, how could it have affected you?".

She was such a strong person, there was no way she could have been affected by such boring stuff.

"Don't read those things in the future, they are not nourishing at all." said Marcos.

Paulina nodded her head, "It's really not nourishing at all."

Marcos laughed and reached up to rub her head affectionately.

"I'm not a child anymore." Paulina grabbed his hand as she pursed her lips and asked, "Will the job be busy?"

Marcos shook his head.

"So,... now that Earlene is dead, can I come to the office and help you?" asked Paulina tentatively.

"You want to go to the office that badly?"

"Hmm." Paulina lowered her head, "I like the idea of working with you."

Mark's heart fluttered at her words and instead he took her hand in his, lifting it with a single force and wrapping it gently in his arms.

"I like it too. But we haven't investigated who wants to hurt you yet, so stay home." Mark didn't want her to go in and out of the house with him, but reality wouldn't allow it.

"Group X was too dangerous and who knew if they would ever send someone to deal with her again."

"It's okay." Paulina opened her arms around his waist and pressed her cheek against his chest, "It's a shame, but I'll behave."

"When we're done with this, I'll take you and the baby for a walk sometime."

"Good."

The room was quiet and cozy as the two held each other in silence.

...

The day turned into the eve of Earlene's funeral and that afternoon Grandma Bartram was discharged from the hospital.

As she stepped out of the car, she looked at the cottage before her with a pale face and her grip on her crutches tightened with force.

"Come in, old woman, it's very windy." The butler said softly.

"I want to go and see Earlene one last time." His voice was hard and he sounded sad.

The last time he had seen Earlene, she had been in the dungeon, crying and begging to be taken out of there.

That scene was like it was yesterday.

"Old lady, the prince has explained to you that you must go back and go straight upstairs to rest. He will take care of the young lady."

"What right has he to prevent me from seeing Earlene?" the old woman snorted coldly, "I must go and see."

After saying that, she leaned on her crutches and limped toward the ancestral hall.

The housekeeper didn't dare stop her, but followed her instead.

When Rawlins saw the old woman arrive, her face changed and she hurried to stop her.

"Grandma, what brings you here?"

"I want to see Earlene," the old woman looked behind her, at the hearth, and for a moment she felt even older.

"Grandma, I was hoping you wouldn't look, I was afraid you wouldn't be able to stand it." Rawlins didn't want her to be stimulated anymore, she feared her body wouldn't be able to take it. "That's my granddaughter." The cane hit the ground hard and the old woman cried out, "I just want to see her one last time."
