Chapter 227
Chapter 227
As Hunter left, Irene and Yvette fixated on Yasmine's retreating figure. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't comprehend how they'd been completely outmaneuvered.
"You can't leave!" As Yasmine and Morgan were about to make their exit, Irene called out loudly, "Yasmine!"
"I'm not sure what else Ms. White wants to discuss. The auction is over," Yasmine stated.
"I don't need you to remind me, I know the auction's over. What I didn't expect was how deep your scheming runs. I'm impressed you could spin me around like this. But I'm curious, who told you about Misty Evergreen Isle? Was it Yonas?" Irene glanced softly at Yonas beside her.
In all of Soucrity, aside from Yonas, no one else could access such confidential documents. How Hunter got them was a mystery, but Irene was sure that the intel Yasmine held came from Yonas.
Yasmine chuckled self-mockingly, "Ms. White, are you asking me or interrogating me? Besides, why should I tell you?" She pierced through the crowd with her gaze, locking onto Yvette, and uttered a meaningful line, "Ms. Grant, happy cooperation."
Irene suddenly glanced at Yvette, and Xavier furrowed his brows as he looked at her, too. Just when she was about to ask Yasmine something, she realized that Yasmine had already left with Lucy and Morgan. Irene looked at Yonas, "Yonas, I have something to ask you, Yvette, you can go ahead, no need to wait for me." She paused before also addressing Xavier, "Mr. Flynn, may I have a word with your wife?" "Xavier, don't..." Yvette cautiously held onto Xavier's hand, sensing the dangerous vibe coming from Irene, making her want to flee. To her surprise, Xavier simply shook off her hand and walked out of the venue.
The auction had only ended fifteen minutes ago, yet the venue was empty, except for Yvette and Irene. Yvette swallowed nervously, staring anxiously at Irene, "Ms. White, what do you want to talk about?"
"You betrayed me?" Irene squinted her eyes. Yvette nervously stepped back, while Irene kept closing the gap between them, slowly cornering Yvette.
Just as Yvette was trying to evade, Irene suddenly lifted her hand and slapped her hard. The crisp sound echoed, and Yvette's cheek burned with pain. She held her face in disbelief, staring at the cold expression on Irene's face as tears fell down her cheeks. "You hit me? How dare you hit me?"
"Why wouldn't I dare hit you? You teamed up with that witch to harm me! Do abandoned island? Can you compensate for my loss?" Irene finally ripped off her mask of pretense.
you know how much I paid for that
Yvette shook her head in pain, feeling the swelling on her cheek which might already be puffy. "I didn't decide to bid on Crescent Isle, you did that yourself! That day, Yasmine told me everything, and I passed it all on to you without hiding anything. I'm a victim here too! I was forced to buy Emerald Isle and Xavier is already very upset with me." The thought of Xavier's earlier look made Yvette uneasy.
"Yvette, have you forgotten what I've got over you? This isn't over today. Do you think Yasmine has evidence that I don't? Mine is way more complete than hers!" Irene declared.
"What do you want?" Yvette asked, eyes
wide open.
Irene chuckled coldly. "Perpetrators harming others should always pay the price, don't you agree?"
"You want me to take the blame for you?" Yvette's forehead was covered in cold sweat. How could she have forgotten? That day, she didn't just relay what Yasmine had said to Irene, but also revealed all the evidence Yasmine had shown her. Irene must have known Yasmine was starting to act against her. In such a critical moment, the only way to escape unscathed was to push out a scapegoat, just like the time she rescued Helen.

Irene chuckled softly, "Yvette, are you having a memory lapse? What do you mean by taking the blame for me? You were the one breaking the law from the start. You planned everything from the beginning to the end. I knew nothing about it." ""You!" Yvette was shocked.
"Yvette, be a good scapegoat for me," Irene said, maintaining her graceful smile as she calmly exited the venue.
Yvette walked into the parking lot. Xavier's face was grim. He only spoke once she got into the car, "Do you know about the Misty Evergreen Isle situation?" Yvette's heart sank. She never imagined that the person she relied on the, most would also doubt her. Yvette spoke helplessly, "I don't know. From the beginning, Yasmine told me she wanted Crescent Isle. Didn't you notice that she not only fooled me but also tricked Irene?"
"What did Irene tell you?" Xavier asked.
Yvette's heart skipped a beat. "Xavier, you have to save me." Before she could even get the words out, her eyes welled up with tears. "I didn't tell you everything that day. It was me who drove Helen's car, but Irene was the one who planned it all. I was confused, thinking you still had feelings for Yasmine. But I swear, I didn't come up with the idea. Yasmine found evidence proving that it was me in the villa that day, not Helen."
"So, are you saying that Irene wants you to take the fall now?"
"Yes! I have no idea how things got this bad! But you have to help me, for the sake of the child, please!" Yvette sobbed, tears streaming down her face. If Xavier refused to help, she would go to Selena, because Selena would surely help her.
Xavier drove in silence, casting a cold glance at Yvette. "If you hadn't brought this upon yourself, none of this would have happened. Helen tried to kill herself and is still in the hospital because of this child." Helen was his sister, after all. This time, she wasn't responsible, yet she was being forced to take the blame.
"What are you saying? Are you going to abandon me, Xavier? Take a good look, the baby I'm carrying is yours! Could you really bear to let him be born in prison?" Yvette cried out, her voice sharp.
"We'll talk about it at home," Xavier said, feeling like his head was about to explode. He didn't want to deal with this anymore. First, it was Helen, and now it's Yvette; there wasn't a single person at home who could give him some peace.
But it was too late... Xavier and Yvette had just gotten home and hadn't even sat down when police cars arrived at the Flynn residence. Selena, shocked, quickly shut the door and hurriedly helped Yvette into the basement. "Yvette, hide, don't come out," she urged. Xavier watched Selena's actions unfazed. "It's useless," he said softly.
The door swung open, and several police officers entered, getting straight to the point, "Where's Yvette?"
