Chapter 5 — Charade
It's been a couple of days now that Ellis and I have been dating. It kind of reminds me of when we had gotten together so long ago. He's being the sweetest, most attentive man I have ever known. I have to keep reminding myself that I am not in love with him, that I hate him to the depths of my soul. Amanda does try to win him back, but my spell on him holds strong. I'm thinking of doing a memory spell on her, but they are very tricky to do. If not done properly, you could wipe someone's entire mind, so if I decide to go through with it, I have got to plan it carefully.
For right now, I'll put it on hold until she becomes really bothersome. The girls are very happy that their dad and I are together. I guess Preston is too. He really hasn't said either way, so I'm just going to assume he is happy with it. I had to put my box of spells that I used in a box that I
use to hold my photos and other mementos from my past, which I place in a secret hiding spot in my bedroom wall. I also hide the laptop that I use for the video feed in there as well when I'm not using it. Since Amanda is out to find something she can use on me, I'm not going to leave anything to chance with her.
Since she is part of the reason my ex left me, I'm not going to stop terrorizing her just because she isn't with him anymore. She had played a part in our divorce, so she is going to get the same treatment. For now, I will keep up my charade as the loving girlfriend, which at the moment, isn't hard to do.
I come home the next day to find my front door has been busted in. My first instinct was to run to my bedroom to see if my secret compartment had been found out. I let out a sigh of relief when I see my piece of hair was still where I had put it. Not knowing if my intruder was still in the house, I don't go open the hiding spot, but I do reach for my handgun from the nightstand drawer that was left open by the intruder. Next, I call the police while I finish looking around the house, noticing nothing had been stolen, not even my expensive jewelry. When the police finally show up, they do their look through, telling me that it is safe to go inside. Then Officer McMillan asked me if I had any idea who would do this. I looked him dead in the eye and told him, "The only person I know who might do this is Ellis's ex-girlfriend, Amanda, not sure what her last name is."
"And why do you think this might be her and not someone looking for something to sell for drugs?" He asks me.
"For one, Officer McMillan, nothing of value is missing. All my diamonds and pearls are still there. It's as if someone was looking for something." I say.
"Tell me why you think this Amanda girl would want to break into your home?" McMillan questions.
"Because I took her boyfriend, so she is trying to find something on me so she can break us up," I answer calmly.
"That seems like a dangerous thing to do just to break up someone," McMillan says. "We will find out who did this. Are you going to need us to patrol this street tonight for you, ma'am?" He asks politely. "No, thank you," I answer. "I have, Bonnie," I say, showing him my handgun.
"Well, just call us before you shoot, okay Mrs. Grant." Officer McMillan says as he gets into his cruiser and leaves. I turn and head back inside my house when there is a knock at the door. As I answer it, there is Ellis standing before me with a worried look in his beautiful blue eyes.
"Is everything alright? I just got home and saw the cop car leaving your driveway." He asks as I let him inside.
"Yes, everything is fine. I got home and found the house broken into, but nothing was taken." I explain.
"As long as you weren't hurt, that's all that matters," Ellis replies sweetly.
After he goes home, I finally get to straighten my house back up. Then, I head for bed, but not before I watch what was recorded earlier from Amanda's house. I just have a funny feeling it was her that broke into my house. Sure enough, after watching a couple of hours of her sleeping on her couch, I see her get up and grab a baseball bat, then stomp out of her house. So I switch over to the videos of my house for the day, and I see Amanda coming up my driveway, busting out my front windows and the one near my front door, then unlocking the door to let herself inside my home. At this moment, I decide to save myself some trouble and call my new friend Officer McMillan to let him know what I had found and that I will be pressing charges on her. As soon as I hung up the phone, he was pulling into my driveway. I showed him where my mini cameras were placed, then showed him the video of her breaking the windows and into the house. I then downloaded the video on a USB drive and gave it to him for evidence. Not long after that, Officer McMillan and another officer were at Amanda's house, arresting her for breaking into my home. Now I could concentrate all my attention and energy on my revenge against Ellis.
In the days to come, I find myself forgetting about my plans for revenge, until one day, he comes home in a bad mood, which he took out on me and the children after we got home from working a little overtime due to a late trucker crowd that had come in. Ellis was so furious the veins in his neck bulged like they were going to burst out.
"You are a lazy-ass woman!" He fumes. "When I come home, this house should be spotless and my supper on the table!"
I stand my ground and glare at him, then hand the girls the keys to my car, along with one of my credit cards, and tell them to go out to eat on me. After they leave, I focus all my energy on him.
"If you ever talk to me or the girls like that again, I promise you that you will regret it!" I snap at him, "We are not on this earth to wait on you or any other man!"
Ellis looks at me with shock written all over his face, then it turns to sadness as he lowers his head in shame.
"You're right, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said all that. You know I didn't mean it, right? You and the girls aren't my maids, you're my family. I just had a really bad day at work, and I took it out on you girls, and I am sorry. Please forgive me?" He pleads with tears streaming down his face.
"This one time I will forgive you, but you have to ask the girls for their forgiveness. I can't forgive you for them." I advised him. I call Kaylee's cell to have them pick up their father and a pizza on their way home, and to my surprise, they were in the next town over at the Pizza Hut. I couldn't help but start laughing as I hung up with her.
"What's so funny baby?" Ellis asks, looking away from the television.
"I gave the two teenage girls the keys to my pickup along with a credit card, and where do they go to eat? Pizza Hut." We both burst out laughing again, and at that moment, I realized that I had some really good kids. When most teenage girls would have gone on a shopping spree and to an expensive meal, they went to eat pizza. When they returned home an hour later, Ellis apologized to them for what he had said and explained how wrong he was. Kaylee and Laura accepted his apology without any hesitation. I could see how much they loved him, but they are also very wary of his temper, which makes me think that they remember all of the physical and mental abuse that I had endured all those years ago. Just the thought of it all brought the anger back out, and I realized that I needed to start back up with my torture plans for Ellis. You see, I don't wish death on this man. I just want to torture and scare him like he does his children-the way he did to
me.
