Chapter Epilogue
*One year later* *Emma*
"Are you ready to go yet? We are going to be late if you don't hurry up." Kelsey entered into our bedroom and headed towards the bathroom where I was currently fighting with some eyeliner. This was not the first time she had come to check on me either, I was half surprised that she didn't just take over. She was better at this makeup thing that me anyway.
"Okay, I realize I don't usually take this long to get ready but it's a big deal and I want to look nice. And this moment, for me, looking nice includes eyeliner that I almost never wear. Bear with me."
There we go, left eye complete and looking fly if I do say so myself. Do people still say that? If they do they should stop because *yikes*. Or maybe it just sounds dumb when I say it. Anyway, on to eye two.
"I've been bearing. It's the anniversary of Joe and Sarah's acquittal today, do you want to show up late?"
I took a moment to turn and look at her before responding and lost all my breath for a minute there. God, she was gorgeous.
Of course, I knew how beautiful she was, but sometimes it just hits ya.
I smiled and reached for her, probably looking like a maniac with only half my face done up but I didn't care, and she didn't seem to either.
"You know what this dress reminds me of?" I ran my hands along the sides as I spoke and her breath caught.
"What?" She breathed out the words as she watched me.
"That night we went dancing. After we moved in together." I brushed my lips against hers and she slid her hands around my neck.
"I don't recall any dancing that night."
"You're right. We never made it out the door because of this dress right here. And yet, you're wearing it again."
I started to pull at the zipper when our doorbell went off. She pulled away and pointed at me, "stop it. Best behavior tonight. Finish up or Drew, Matty and I will leave without you."
I stuck my tongue out at her before getting back to it.
It took me ten more minutes before I was satisfied and joined the rest of the gang in the living room. The four of us have been hanging out outside of work more since Kelsey and I got together so we were all quite comfortable with each other by now. They even gave me an intervention nine-ish months ago about going back to a therapist.
Being able to open up to Kelsey helped me a lot but there was still unresolved issues I needed to work through. I'm glad they pushed me too, because the sessions were really helping.
"Look who finally decided to grace us with her presence!" Drew teased and I shoved his shoulder lightly before tucking myself against Kelsey's side. One whole year of her being in my life and I still couldn't get enough of her closeness. She calmed me, simple as that.
"Very funny. Don't worry, we hid all the wine bottles before you got here just in case your elbows get out of control again."
"One time. That happened one time and I am going to argue poor bottle placement until the day I die."
I laughed at that. We were still working on getting the stain out of the carpet, though it was probably a lost cause at this point. Set in forever.
Kelsey pulled away and handed me the drink in her hand before heading to the bedroom, "I forgot something and then we can go."
I sipped her drink and joked with Matty and Drew while we waited and while I primed myself for a "now who's making us late" comment. Drew clinked his glass against mine as he said, "it's nice to have the old Emma back." Kelsey came back into the room then with a wrapped box presumably for Joe and Sarah. I smiled and said, "it's good to be back."
