The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 90 Layers of Mist

Scarlett kept going, "You really think your grandpa's clueless? If I order fancy food, he'll think you made it?"

"And those folks in the kitchen, the gatekeepers, I gotta pay them off. I've spent a lot on you and your Daniel! Remember to pay me back!" she added.

Hearing this, Veda's mood soured instantly. She shoved Scarlett's arm away and stood up, disgusted. "All you care about is money! Do you really need to go to such lengths to deal with that Emily?" Of course, it was necessary!

Scarlett had been scheming for ages to deal with Emily. So Michael wouldn't be swayed by her, and Mason wouldn't always side with her. She'd still be the lady of the Smith family, without those lowly people around, and she could still enjoy family happiness with Michael and Veda!

Scarlett said, "What do you know? Just wait and see, you'll be impressed!"

Just then, Scarlett's phone buzzed. She unlocked the screen and glanced at the message.

Her face lit up with a smile, and her grin widened.

Veda asked, "Mom, what's up? Who messaged you? Is it Emily? Is she about to be ruined?"

As soon as Veda said this, Scarlett's eyes sparkled. She turned to Veda, excitedly saying, "No wonder they say mothers and daughters are connected at heart. Are you excited that soon no one will be competing with you for Daniel?" A scream shattered the quiet night.

From the direction of the guest room in the old mansion, the sound of a woman's desperate cries echoed, followed by hurried footsteps.

"Let go of me! Help, help! Michael, Michael!"

Hearing his name, Michael immediately quickened his pace and rushed into Emily's guest room.

The figure that had intended to assault Emily had already jumped out of the window upon hearing the commotion outside.

Although Emily's clothes were intact, her face was pale with fear. She raised the shard of glass high, holding it near her neck. Michael was startled and immediately shouted angrily behind him, "Get out!" Andrew quickly obeyed, leading the others out to wait.

Seeing Emily first stunned, then crying pitifully, and finally collapsing to the ground, exuding deep fatigue, Michael felt a stabbing pain in his heart. An inexplicable impulse drove him to embrace Emily. Wrapped in Michael's warm embrace, Emily immediately let down her guard and began to cry loudly.

"When did Emily come back? Why did she go to the guest room? None of you saw Emily? How is that possible?"

At one in the morning, the Smith family mansion was brightly lit. Mason sat on the sofa, leaning on a cane. Compared to the joy two hours ago, he now felt a heavy weight in his heart, making it hard to sleep. Scarlett said, "Dad, it's because our old mansion is too big, and there are too many servants. It's hard to manage so many people! Maybe Emily came back when no one saw her!"

"Besides, the weather's been pretty bad lately, and Michael's master bedroom has a ton of windows. Dust and stuff might've blown in, and maybe Emily saw it and thought it was dirty, so she decided to crash in the guest room!"

After Scarlett finished, Veda yawned and lazily added, "Grandpa, Emily's always been unpredictable. Who knows why she ran off to the guest room. Maybe she's embarrassed to sleep in the master bedroom since she's about to divorce Michael."

Veda really lived up to being a simple-minded heiress.

In just a few words, she quickly ticked off Mason.

But this time, before Mason could react, Michael spoke up first, "Stop talking about our divorce; it's none of your business."

He added, "And Mom, you run the whole Smith family. How could no one see Emily come back? She doesn't have the key to that guest room. How did she open it? Don't you find it strange?" Hearing Michael's pointed words, Scarlett couldn't stay calm.

Her palms got sweaty as she scanned the living room.

Seeing that the servant who took Emily to the guest room wasn't around, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Scarlett asked, "Michael, are you suspecting me for Emily's sake?"

"Everyone saw it today, and Dad can testify. I was in the living room all night, except for taking a call from you! I said I didn't see Emily. If you don't believe me, call her here, and we'll confront each other!" she added. Scarlett was really something, lying with such arrogance.

She didn't expect that the person she had painstakingly found couldn't even handle Emily. She would have to get back the deposit she paid!

At this point, the atmosphere in the living room got tense again.

Until Andrew hurriedly brought back news. "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith is preparing to return to Emerald Lake Manor."

Before leaving, Mason instructed Michael to take good care of Emily.

He also said he would investigate the matter of the intruder.

Hearing this, Veda glanced guiltily at Scarlett.

But Scarlett acted like she had nothing to do with it, looking completely unconcerned.

Only her eyes showed a bit of unwillingness.

And Michael, as the first to notice something strange in the old mansion and the first to save Emily, he was the most unsettled.

But standing against him were Scarlett and Veda.

When saying goodbye to Mason, he firmly left a sentence, "This isn't over. Emily and I need an explanation."

The Smith family returned to peace.

At this point, Veda couldn't sleep, tossing and turning.

Thinking of Mason's sharp eyes and Michael's resolute attitude, she felt a wave of fear wash over her. Without uttering a word, she rushed into Scarlett's bedroom, exclaiming, "Mom!"

Veda said, "You still have the mind to put on a face mask!"

Scarlett was busy chatting with a male model on her phone.

Seeing Veda suddenly burst in, she was so startled that she almost dropped her phone.

Scarlett said angrily, "Why are you yelling! If my phone gets broken, you're paying for it!"

Saying this, Scarlett placed her phone face down on the table and impatiently rolled her eyes at Veda.
