The Divorced Heiress’s Revenge

Chapter 2395

Chapter 2395

As a seasoned police officer with years of experience, Ralph felt his instincts go into overdrive after hearing Jack's words.

Donald, now visibly enraged, slammed his hand on the desk. "Jack! What nonsense are you spouting? Have I been too lenient with you? She's just a doctor! I'm the superintendent! How could I know her? Don't let your imagination run wild!"

Jack, still feeling confused, continued to press further. "Then what's wrong with me investigating Dr. Amaryllis according to procedure? I don't understand the issue. Justin's drug report came back positive. There were drugs found hidden in his office. He clearly took drugs!

"To prove he's guilty, we have to find out who provided him with the drugs. Otherwise, this case remains shaky. You're underestimating his attorney, Clarence. He was a former judge known for winning high-profile cases!"

Standing outside, Ralph could only catch fragments of their argument. What stood out were Jack's voice and the unusually heated and angry response from Donald.

When Jack asked about Superintendent Donald's connection to Clarice, his denial only fueled Ralph's suspicions. Years of interrogating suspects had taught him one thing-the louder someone denied involvement, the more likely they were hiding something.

Otherwise, why did Donald get so worked up? What was his connection to Clarice?

Donald finally sat back down and coldly said, "Even if we can't convict him for drug possession, we already have a positive result for drug abuse. That's enough to close this case."

Jack was not ready to give up. "Superintendent Donald, this case isn't as simple as it seems. Crystal Ice is one of the most dangerous drugs we've dealt with. We're finally uncovering leads. If we follow the trail, we could catch the drug trafficker behind it all! Why close it now?"

Ralph narrowed his eyes.

He and Jack had always butted heads, and he dismissed Jack as a ladder-climbing sycophant, always currying favor with Donald. But now he realized how little he truly knew about Jack.

Jack continued, "Let's not forget that Mr. Salvador denies the drug abuse allegations. He claims the toxins in his body were caused by the medicine he was prescribed. There is a big difference between the two. If he presents evidence in the future to prove that the medicine he took was for treatment, we can't convict him of drug abuse. It would also make the police look incompetent!"

"What evidence could he possibly have? If he had anything, he'd have shown it by now!" Superintendent Donald snapped. His frustration was evident.

"It doesn't matter. We have enough evidence of the drug abuse charges. Close the case and release Clarice; what does she have to do with this?!" Donald yelled.

Moments earlier, Donald had referred to her as Dr. Amaryllis. His sudden shift to calling her by her first name, Clarice, made it sound extra suspicious.

Listening to this made Jack feel uncomfortable. It seemed that the focus had shifted from catching the drug addicts to simply framing Justin.

Outside, Ralph had the same suspicion growing in his mind. The more he listened, the more doubts he had about Donald's motives.

Just then, a voice from the hallway interrupted. "Captain Thompson? There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!"

Startled, Ralph quickly straightened up and pretended to be calm.

Inside the office, Donald and Jack both froze at the sound of Ralph's name.

Donald wasted no time in ending the conversation. "Enough. Just do as I say and get back to work."

Jack pursed his lips and turned to the door.

By the time he opened it, Ralph had vanished.

Once Jack left, Donald immediately pulled out his phone and dialed a number. His voice, now full of contrition, carried across the line.

"I'm sorry—this was my carelessness. I didn't keep a close watch on my team, and they brought in someone they shouldn't have. But don't worry, I've already released Ms.

Amaryllis, and no one will bother her again."

The voice on the other end sounded like a middle-aged man. "As long as there are no further problems."

Donald hesitated before continuing, "It's just... Mr. Salvador's case might be difficult to close

"That's fine," the man said, his tone emotionless. "You've done well. The goal has been achieved."

Several hours later, Clarice left the police station unharmed.

Her expression was grim as she stepped into a sleek black car and immediately called Grant.
